Default Memory Lane auctions - smart move

Got a good laugh today.

A package came from Memory Lane. I didn't remember winning anything recently from them. The package was a bubble mailer with something about the size of a padded slab.

I opened the bubble mailer and it was a package of microwave popcorn with information about their current auction (ending 11JAN25).

I hadn't checked out this auction out until today (after receiving the package).

Lots of CJs and over 20 Evers T206 (looks like a large back run).

As usual lots of fun stuff.

Anybody else get popcorn?

I'm sure the bumps in the bids more than paid for the popcorn and mailer.

I received a cup and an unopened pack of Donruss baseball cards. Not sure what year it is from. I always enjoy these treats from Memory Lane.

I got 1987 Topps in my cup. It went into my son's Christmas stocking, and he was happy to pull a Pete Rose.

Got the exact same package and I had the exact same thought - "oh, I must have won 1 or 2 slabs that I just forgot about!"

I had already put all my max bids into what is an exception auction (budget in the holidays is always a little tighter, so I'm already out!), but the popcorn absolutely achieved a positive goal for me. I gave it to my partner and said "see - you tell me that collecting cards is worthless. Now, you've got a bag of popcorn!" and she loved it.

Great catalogue, funny and thoughtful mailers. I know there are very real reasons that Memory Lane needs to make up for sins of the past, but I do appreciate the thought and effort. Its also a really good way to play the long game for eventual potential consignors, as its gotten this sub talking again about a great slate of auction items in a novel way.

Wut? If ML needs to atone for sins, and I won't speculate about what you are talking about here, why on earth would sending people a bag of popcorn or a junk wax pack atone for them? Are people that manipulable? I doubt it.

I did the exact same thing!
My wife is using the cup for her morning tea and my son got the 87 Topps pack in his Christmas stocking.

I still use the Post-It notes they sent a while back packaged in a catalog...or maybe an auction win, don't remember.

Either way, those tiny 1/6th sized ones come in handy in my lab. I didn't know they were a thing.

I got a nice coffe travel mug, but no catalog this time. I’m a catalog guy, as I hate scrolling the big auctions, unless I am specifically looking for something.

Old school browser, but I’ve got a nice travel mug!

WOW Memory, you sent me twelve cents of popcorn. As a return of thanks, let me buy this 35K card. Seems fair.

I am pretty sure you get to keep the popcorn whether you buy something or not. I dont see anything unfair about a company sending you a gift. If you dont want it, throw it away. Its called advertising with reciprocation hoped for but not expected and certainly not required/demanded.

As an aside -- ML ends tomorrow and I have some T206s in there that are stupid low, including the Willetts Brown Lenox and the two Brown Old Mills

Sorry I either spoke to soon or they read these posts

I literally just got an email at 802pm saying I have a delivery from them scheduled for tomorrow

So either
1. They read and respond to our forum
2. My timing of my comments suck
3. Or I was in fact deemed worthy by the Auctions Gods for some popcorn

Either way pretty cool and as always my bids are in on many great items they have.
And wow they always seem to have amazing items

My bag had 22% less kernels, rather than the standard 20%. Bummer.

Mine just came

I guess we all get slightly different stuff

They packed it well

I got the mug, some pens, the catalog

The world famous popcorn

A small pad of stickums with their logo on it

A little squeeze ball (my dog is loving it)

Some pens

No cards but fun either way

But still fun and cool

Seen the items on line but still love the catalogs

Someone must be watching here, as I got a catalog and some popcorn today, via the next day fedex truck! And the post it. Just in time on the post it’s, as I use the hell of those little things.

Appreciated!

Love it and smart marketing.

I know the only reason I bid on my card and won it was because of the popcorn
