Default Anyone going to the Pasadena Front Row show tomorrow?

I'll be there in the afternoon, mostly to drop an order with SGC.

I'm landing at LAX at 2:30 on Sunday and almost brought a few thousand cards to consign at the COMC booth, but realized there's very little chance I get my rental car and get to Pasadena in time before it closes.

I do have tickets for the Dodgers/Braves game Tuesday night. It's a business trip, so I'm taking along 4 members of my team.

Any idea if there's much vintage there or will it be a lot more newer stuff?

Funny and true, pretty much for any show these days.

This is why I've long been wishing and saying that somebody would/should put together an annual Pre-War (only!) National. I have little doubt that this will come to pass, but I just hope it happens before I'm too old and feeble to attend.

I'd do it but I'm too old and feeble...

Went to the show today. It was mobbed outside. I got there around noon and the line outside was still hundreds deep...if you did not prepay for a ticket online. I did so I waited about 2 minutes. Inside was jammed too. Lots of people with absolutely no concept of where they are spatially; one idiot knocked me off my feet bulling past with his giant Zion case man-purse. Didn't even stop. Lucky I caught myself on the dealer table.

I found a small pile of pristine 1969-1976 cards but that was about it. Prices were sky-high on the vintage I did see. I wish the market was there.

I am attending tomorrow, hoping to upgrade a few commons for my Topps sets from 1967-1970 plus some of the inserts from around that time period. I have done somewhat well on 2-3 occasions, but the prices for a limited selection of vintage is largely discouraging. However, there’s always hope.

Want list:

1967 Topps Baseball Posters
1968 Topps Baseball Game Cards
1969 Topps Baseball Stamps Album- Twins
1970 & 1971 Topps Scratch Offs
1971 Topps Baseball Coins

Vg to Vg/Ex works for me.

After the last two shows, I stopped attending. It was about 60 - 70% Pokemon, not exaggerating. Of the 30% sports cards, about 1/2 were vintage, most postwar.....with high sticker prices.

I wish the West coast had shows like Strongsville.....I've talked to Rob from Burbank Sportscards and he said that many of the prewar vintage dealers live in the midwest and the east coast and don't really travel beyond a certain radius...generally travel only where they could get within a 3-5 hour car ride...so west coast is usually out.

Seattle and Portland are equally weak and disappointing. 90% Pokeman and Ultra-modern mass-produced cards. They really need to induce more vintage dealers to participate. These shows seem to be scheduled quarterly but as of now, I'm not sure it's worth the long drive.

I was amazed by the amount of Pokemon dealers there. Your 70% estimate may be low. There were only 4 or 5 dealers that I remember seeing that only had vintage (I think there was only one that had binders and boxes of ungraded commons and minor stars) along with others that had some vintage mixed in with newer stuff.

Your comment about where prewar vintage dealers live and travel seems to go along with The National not being held on the west coast, but there's any number of other threads talking about that so no real need to discuss it here.

I ended up attending for a couple hours on Saturday. I didn't pre buy a ticket so had to wait approx 30 minutes in line. Once inside, the room was pretty packed. Show could have been set up in a bigger room. It was chilly outside but all the bodies jammed together made for a hot and sweaty environment amongst the rows and tables. I did meet a couple guys in line who brought their childhood cards to sell. You know the guys who still have cards in screw down holders. There's still a lot of cards out there in the wild waiting to be discovered.

And if you didn't already know, the Pokemon craze is real. 75% of the show was Pokemon dealers and collectors. Which to be honest at least for the collector part is a nice change from old dudes without deodorant coughing on you while reaching for the $1 boxes. (There were actually quite a few female pokemon collectors buying and selling - shocking right?!)

Had a nice chat with Bobby at VCP (Hi Bobby!) and saw Adam for a brief minute. Made a couple laps, sold a couple cards to a dealer and called it a day. Always fun to be at a show.
