Storing raw pre war cards - Pages or Top Loaders?

Historically, I have stored my raw pre war cards in binder pages. Some are in binders, some are flat in bankers boxes.

I just completed a series and was thinking about moving that set from pages to top loaders. Pros and Cons?

Curious how others store their raw cards.

Top loaders for me...despite the criticism, I sometimes use 2 pieces as well.

Top loader w/penny sleeves for me...

and a card that is in said penny sleeve, in top loader...I always take them out for pictures though

Someone on Net54 turned me on to this while ago. I’m a big fan of using Cardsaver Is inserted into 4 pocket pages. I like to shuffle cards around, add cards, pages, change order etc so this works great for me. Cardsaver Is fit nicely into the pages, and cards are protected while I am moving them in and out of pages. All of my various collections are in this format for all the raw cards that fit.

None of my stuff is super high end, so I enjoy how it all looks together in a binder.

All of my Goudey and Play Ball are in regular 9 pocket pages.

Everything else are in 2 versions of pocket pages, except double and triple folders. I had to get creative with these.

Also, I have an antique album made for tobacco cards such as OJs, t205, t206, etc.

You don’t have to choose. There are several companies now making top loader binders. Just search the term on Amazon. I love them. All the protection of a top loader with the viewing experience of a binder.

I like to store my raw cards (pre-war and vintage) in binders.

Pros = being able to see multiple cards at once = visually appealing.

Cons = could damage cards if you rearrange them often, or if you allow other people to carelessly flip thru the pages (not applicable to me cuz no one else views my cards in person, just me).

I store them with the binder spine up, so the pages are dangling free.

There are 6 pocket pages that I used for double and triple folders. They fit fine in those.

Bound tightly in thick stack with rubber bands and thrown into an old cigar box or burlap sack.

For longterm storage I suggest a rarely visited corner of the attic at the bottom of a box of random items.

I keep it real.

I often use mylar instead of penny sleeves or card savers, because I find them a little sturdier than the sleeves and more attractive than the card savers, plus I prefer them to rigid toploaders. Here is a pic with one card partially removed on purpose--they don't slide around:

I literally made my own for the few I have. It took several attempts before I had them looking nice.

I put the card pages inside Itoya folders, this alleviates possible bending issues from binders.

I like album pages, but to me there's more of a chance to damage the card if/when pulling them out of the sleeve, however you can view a lot of cards quickly in an album of pages. I have sets in pages, but singles I put in top loaders (penny sleeves) and in some cases another larger sleeve which can fit in the collectors boxes.

For people that use mostly pages, are there any words of wisdom such as "don't use this type (vendor name) of page" or "use the penny sleeves for certain cards and then put them in the album page".

Does anyone have any horror stories related to pages or sleeves that damaged cards due to the material(s) used to create the sleeves or pages?
