Default GBSCC Boston Shriner's Show Wilmington Nov. 1-3

The annual GBSCC Sports Card/Memorabilia Show at the Shriner's Auditorium in Wilmington will be held Nov.1-3.

One of the top regional shows in the US.

Not "The National", but a very good show similar to Philly and Chantilly with roughly 300 tables.

It’s a great show! Tons of vintage and some super cool memorabilia too at really great prices.

I’ll be selling some sweet pre-war cards (see below for preview) at a shared table with Paul Borges (the RI legend!) so please come by to chat Net54 stuff.

See you there

Jeff

Default Shriners Show

I'll be set up again at tables 113-115 with longtime hobby friend John Liffmann. I believe this is my 12th year setting up there and it is always a good show. John will have his usual array of pre war photos and also many paintings by Bruce Stark. I will have T206s (graded and raw), various type cards, E94 Close Candy cards and many other caramel cards. Stop by and say hello, it's always great to talk about the hobby.

I’m at tables 63/64. Mostly autographs and memorabilia with some vintage cards along with original photos/score cards and other neat items.

Very excited for this event. My wants these days are pretty specific and I will pick and choose, look for the occasional deal if I think I can flip it. If anyone here has a T206 Hindu, or Carolina Brights Red Sox of Spencer, or Stahl (glove down), or Kleinow, or Cicotte, assuming any of those guys even have a version of those cards, I am interested. Also looking for a decent Yastzemski for Mayor card (67 Topps Test sticker), an affordable 1961 Fleer Bob Cousy. Would love to find 48 Leaf Ted Williams with great eye appeal and a pin hole, but this isn't the best show to be hunting for this. Always looking for Curt Flood RCs and will go Hog Wild for John Hannah RC slabs, graded, since I think they have room to grow. Roger Stauback RCs in PSA 7 seem like they can climb. Also looking for a 53 Milt Boiling in crud condition.

I'll be cruising around Friday early and often. Keep an eye out for the 51 year old white guy with average height and build, wearing a backpack. There can't be too many there like me.

I should be there on Saturday - looking for a really nice T205 Mathewson (PSA graded) and raw 1933 Goudey and Diamond Stars commons.

I’ll be helping at tables 84,85,86

There will be at least one showcase of pre-war stuff and some 1950s vintage

A decent amount of 1920s caramel cards

I’ll have my Walter Johnson T206 shirt on one of the days.

Come say hi

Was there for a bit over three hours this afternoon. Great vibe and tons of vintage. Man that concrete floor is unforgiving though. I am not in horrible shape and my feet are sore! Overall I found a couple of relatively obscure Red Sox cards and filled some of my set needs. I find these shows a bit overwhelming. Very hard to find real quality that isn’t above market price. There are so many regular dealers with tons of stock who are so far above market price I wonder how they make sales. But there are also a lot of good sellers at this show. It’s so easy to get distracted and I can’t help but feel rushed because there’s so much out there and I don’t want to miss anything so I cover the whole floor and inevitably miss things anyway.

Oddball moment of the day was the dealer in the very back row near the left corner selling a 1916 Babe Ruth for $100. It was very badly stained so I say to the guy, “that can’t be real, right?” And he said something like yeah I think it is but it’s too poor to be graded. I nodded my head and moved on.

I found a decent vintage selection, but also very high prices. I was under the impression that shows are the best bang for the buck as you meet collectors and negotiate with passionate like minded individuals. This felt more like card vendors that happen to have some vintage and marked prices way up.

I still got two cards i wanted, so not a total regret!

Really starting to feel like the smaller one day shows that we are lucky to have in the NY/NJ/Pennsylvania are much better for buying then the big regional shows. Some dealers are more motivated to sell, not so tied up in comps, making back money for time & travel expenses, etc…

I find the prices for HOF extraordinary. 10k for a Cobb with a common back? An SGC 2 Evers for $1100?

These cards are old, but not super rare.

Most we’re willing to negotiate, but maybe $50

I was there today from 12-3, plenty of time to take a few trips around and chat up some great Net54ers! The new discovery Type 1 photos going up for auction in the coming month(s) were pretty awesome. Tons of vintage available if you’re willing to pay or make a well incentivized trade. Thanks Shriners for making this possible and a nice show.

Super bummed to be missing this excellent show, but Andrew Aronstein is there in booth 70, accepting consignments and featuring some of the incredible photos we'll be offering in our upcoming fall LOTG auction (shown above). Stop by and say hello!

Wanted to share my recap video of the show. First time going and had a great time. I was pleased to find some good cards for my PC and meet some familiar faces as well as meet some new ones!

Looking for other feedback on this show. On another social media platform, there were a few threads about shiners, mostly about sky high prices on a lot of material.

I was there with my son, brother and nephew on Saturday from 9-12. It definitely did not seem to be as crowded as past shows. Was nice chatting with Howard for a bit. As always, there was a lot of vintage, just nothing at my price. I did sell a few items though.
For me, it's more about spending time with my son - he came back from med school for the weekend just to go to the show with me!!

I live less than 30 minutes away, so I go to the Shriners show every year. But the prices definitely are higher than what you can find online in most cases. Can you hunt and find a bargain? I'm sure you can, but on a whole, prices can tend to be sky high.

Despite that, it's worth it to me to go, in order to see friends, see what's being offered, etc., but I don't go into it with the hopes of finding a big card at a very nice price. The days of that being a common occurrence ended many years ago.

This is a good regional show.

I have traveled from NC to Boston for the last 10 years (15 hour drive each way) and have always enjoyed the show.

This year the Friday attendance was off from previous years. However, it was 70 degrees outside so maybe card collectors were doing other things on such a nice day.

The Saturday attendance was excellent as usual.

The Sunday attendance which is normally non existent was good this time from 9 until 1 when I headed out for the long trip home.

Admittedly, for me, sales were significantly down from previous years but my inventory was significantly down as well and the few higher end items I had did not sell and almost all of my card inventory was sold at the National with no significant purchases to replenish stock.

I bought a few items that I can make some decent money on so not a lost cause.

There are still excellent pre war and vintage cards at this show.

However, you have to know the dealers who may price high but are willing to bargain to sell reasonably to get a deal.

There are some museums as at the National that you just have to walk past but there are many top dealers at this show who are looking to sell.

Until next year!!
