1949 Harrisburg Senators Team Photo | Jim Lemon
A friend recently picked up an interesting team photo of what I believe to be the 1949 Harrisburg (PA) Senators, who were a Cleveland Indians affiliate at the time.
An interesting signature on it is Bob "Jim" Lemon (standing back row center). When called up to Cleveland, Bob started going by "Jim" to avoid confusion with the Indians well-known pitcher with the same name.
Jim Lemon had an interesting career and demonstrated a lot of power in his day, clubbing 3 homers in a game in 1956 vs NYY in front of President Eisenhower. He also once hit 4 homers in a game while in the minors.
This seems to be a rare early signature of "Bob Lemon" before he started signing ""Jim Lemon" once he made the major leagues.
Would love to hear from anyone who has more info on this 1949 team, or any of the other folks in the photo, or other photos of the field (Island Park?) in Harrisburg.
*I have pulled the 1949 roster and reviewed it. Haven't tried to identify everyone yet. I believe the team owner Harvey Ensminger is likely one of the guys at right.
