A poster recently suggested that a PSA 1 is a PSA 1 and that you shouldn't overpay for them. I am on the other side of that fence, as someone who refuses to pay less than VCP for a card, even a PSA 1.
Here are a few low-grade Mantles that I am happy to have "overpaid" for. Let's see some of your best and favorite 1's. Last edited by Gorditadogg; 04-18-2024 at 11:04 AM. |

Most VZ Topps are 1s due to the backs and this one is no different but I'd say the front is especially nice.img076.jpg

I do a lot of low grade and enjoy a good 1. Great idea for a thread!

Here are my offerings...
1955clemente164PSA1.jpg 1967laughlin61mantleADDRESSPSA1.jpg The 1967 Laughlin Mantle is the 'with address' version and there's a crease running across its entire top, apparently done by someone trying to make the oversized card match the size of standard Topps cards. But since these guys are a bear to find in any shape, I'm happy just to have it.

My only 1, which is not to say the rest of my cards are nicer but this is the only 1 of the very few of my cards that are actually graded.

Nice card, Dale.
There are probably very few nice 1's out there. Most people collect higher grades. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk |

This one remains a mystery to me years later. And this 1 is a one-of-one.

I have a few 50's 1's...this one has to be my nicest. Clearly a little kid in 1955 stabled this to something, then popped it off. Other than that, it's super clean with vibrant color. I picked this up for $40 a few years ago at a local show and subbed it myself...

If, "a PSA 1 is a PSA 1," then all PSA 1s should sell for the exact same amount. Last time I checked VCP, that simply wasn't the case. Same for every card in any given grade. They don't all look the same so they don't all cost the same. I wish I could get pretty PSA 1s for what ugly 1s cost. I wish I could get pretty cards in any grade for what a blurry, OC, overtraded example in the same grade would fetch. Wear on a card, even wear that warrants a technical grade of 1, can manifest in a great variety of ways— and some adversely affect eye appeal while others barely draw attention (i.e. a back wrinkle). Bottom line, cards are not stocks.
I'll keep truckin' on and buying 1s like these all day for what I want to pay, because a hobby is about personal enjoyment— the day a collector gives a flying crap what some stranger says is an "overpay" should be a frigid day in hell. ![]() I suppose the two PSA 1s below should sell for the same amount, and someone should not "overpay" for the one on the right? LOL. I'd pay more to own and enjoy looking at the 1 on the right than a lesser centered, tilted 2 or 3. Card > Grade. ![]() Last edited by MattyC; 05-01-2024 at 11:22 PM. |

Nice cards, Matty. I believe you'd have an easy time getting VCP for those beauties. Maybe even more

Don’t have any pure 1’s at the moment, but this is pretty close. Not bad at all for the grade; there is a light blue pen fleck in the right border. Corners and edges are pretty well shot, but there’s not a major crease in it.

Oops, I lied. Here’s a true 1. Deservedly so, but the color pops and it would be hard to improve much on the centering. I’ll take a low grade card like this one all day long…
