Congrats!
Not an easy accomplishment in that grade. What was the hardest card to obtain? Any set anomalies that you can share? Always like to hear these stories from fellow collectors |

#320 Blass my last card does not show up often.
Also, the hard ones for me included many higher numbers, like 620 Phil Niekro, 670 Ken Holtzman. Felipe Alou, #263 tough. A monster set with almost 800 slabs, this one is pretty difficult. |

Wow, the shear number of graded cards is super impressive, that set was hard enough to build raw! Did you sub any of the cards yourself? CONGRATS!

Congratulations. That set fully graded is a massive undertaking. That's a lot of time to spend building a set, but it will be incredibly rewarding to have it done. Got any pictures to share?

Well done, James. That's a great accomplishment. I hope you have some pictures to share. What made you decide on 72T?

I was never much of a fan of this set in 1972. In fact, I did not even collect it. I guess the freaky design grew on me over the years and now I kinda like it. The quality of the players in the set is enormous, with many '50s and '60s stars nearing the end of their career. Plus you get one of my all time favorite cards, #33 Billy Martin, "discreetly" giving the Topps cameraman the bird.
I did have some graded myself, however, they predominantly were picked up in slab form. All 8 or above. |

Congratulations. I felt like this set was a bear to put together raw….let alone graded. So what’s next?

Congratulations! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and as far as I'm concerned, the 1972 set ranks among Topps' finest. I collected these in real time as an 11-year-old — and I'm still collecting them more than a half-century later. Since every thread needs a card, here's one of my favorites.

What is the story behind the card / auto? Just curious, thanks.

I don't know if it was the intention of the photographer, but the halo on top of the scoreboard perfectly hovers over Billy Cowan's head.

Some low pops, some stars in 8.5 & 9. I have spent about $50K in purchases and grading fees. I would hope that a quick "full set" sale on Heritage would "net" me $75K if auctioned today. Unsure what a "breakup" sale might net. Could be a wee North of the $75K I mentioned above. Anybody else have a '72 Set totally graded? |

Yes, my 1972 set is fully graded...ranked somewhere in the mid 20s and currently has a GPA of 8.21 (which is where this set has sat for the last 15+ years). Probably my favorite set. Your set is quite impressive. IMO, the trend over the past year or so is that a complete PSA set of Topps cards sells for more completed than the breakup. At some point in the last year, someone won a 1965 PSA complete set for around $45k with the juice and subsequently broke it up via Greg Morris where the gross was around $35k IIRC. |

Awesome! This is my favorite set design of all time -- there's just something about that early '70s funk.
