Default $10K Mantle Question

Hi

A friend of mine is thinking of buying a Mantle Card for $10k.

I do not know enough about Mantle Cards

What Mantle Card has the most upside potential for $10K?
and/or what is the most desirable Mantle card for $10K Range?

Thanks in advance

I would simply ask what the purpose of his eventual purchase is?

Does he want to land a single great, storied card for his collection (there are a ton of things like Bowman, Red Heart, etc., that are crazy pricey and seriously coveted by collectors), or is he looking at the overall buy as an investment opportunity alone?

There doesn't seem to be a ceiling to Mantle cards, so if it's the latter, I'd ignore the more 'common' Mantles (1966 - 1969, save for the '69 White Letter, which is a great blue chip card to have) and grab multiple cards from the 1950's and early/mid 60's and watch their values continually rise.

If your friend is set on just getting a single Mantle card in that price range...
I'd get one of these:
  • 51 Bowman RC in low grade (1.5-2)
  • 53 Topps in mid grade (5-6)
  • 56 Topps in high grade (7-8)

All three iconic Mantle cards.

If I was an investor, I would avoid the white letters 1969 Mantle. It's easy to just make one of this variation out of a normal yellow letters Mantle. I find it difficult to believe there won't be an ever increasing supply that makes the value diminish.

An unconventional choice would be a Star Cal. Beautiful item and compared to almost anything else, scarce.

I would get the best beater 51 Bowman or if graded the highest graded 58 Topps All-Star. Those are my favorite 2 Mantle cards.
