![]()
So there's only two left in the set that are not identified. One is a player batting with a catcher and a man in the background. I had a theory and started looking for images to fit the theory. Not the most scientific way to go about things but sometimes you have to take a stab.
I haven't gotten anything definitive yet but I think I'm on to something. Here's the postcard in question: ![]() I immediately though of Roger Bresnahan and started digging. I found this: ![]() Close but no cigar. No man in background, no shin guards on catcher and Wagner (the batter) isn't far enough into his swing. What did catch my eye was the swing of the batter with that dropped back elbow and the general build of the player. Operating on a new theory focusing on the batter instead of the catcher I found two images of Wagner batting with a man in the background but neither is exactly right. First this Conlon photo: He's a little too far along in his swing, but if you back it up just a touch, suddenly the bat position is right, everything else on Wagner looks good and the player in the background is pretty damn close to where he belongs relative to the bat position. Still it's not a match, but I'm liking the Wagner theory even more. Then I find this: ![]() Again not a perfect match and the guy in the background is too close but I keep coming back to the swing mechanics. Arm position and stride are awfully good. Also found this: ![]() where the player in the background is about the right size but obviously facing the wrong way and it looks like Wagner took a pitch here. Anyway, I'm on this quixotic mission to identify the last two PC792's and I fell like I'm at least close to figuring something out on this one. I figured I'd post in case anything I found sets off an alarm in someone else's head. Any thoughts? Again, I'm not saying I've identified it, or that it is even necessarily Wagner. Just that, that is the best theory I have while trying to track down the original image.
