How tough are they? I see PSA has only graded 6 Cobbs and 56 total. SGC has slabbed 15 Cobbs and 371 total.
Have they ever been reproduced? I assume it wouldn't be hard to spot the difference, black light should do it if there were any questions.

Would be a hard issue to reproduce, still an underrated set and imo precedes the PC805.

Scott, they're not that hard to find. You're not going to put a set together from eBay whenever you want, but they are available. If you pay attention to auctions and are focused you could realistically complete the set in maybe a year or so. I think i still need 6 for my set and have passed on examples of each of them. There are reprint sets on Ebay, but I haven't bought one so not sure of the quality or if they would fool anyone.

These are indeed quite rare, however not impossible to find. This Wagner batting pose is one such available on eBay, which has a striking depiction of the Flying Dutchman.

I like the "color" of the ball selected as part of this posed throw to second.

Agree, the color is absolutely striking on these.

Even though they contain the exact same subjects, I also think that the PC796 Sepia set precedes the PC805 Novelty Cutlery set. The earliest postmark that I have ever seen on the PC796 set is November 8, 1910 and the earliest for the PC805 Novelty Cutlery set is a year later - September 27, 1911. |
