Default Joe Sewell signed check to Riggs Stephenson Motors

Signed check from Joe Sewell to Riggs Stephenson motors in 1954, Tuscaloosa Alabama. I'm sure everyone knows about the MLB careers of these two, but the baseball stadium at the University of Alabama is named, in part, after Sewell because he coached there for many years after his MLB career (if I remember correctly). Riggs Stephenson played football for Alabama as well as baseball and lived there after retiring. Would be interesting to know what kind of car the $9.94 payment was for.

Price = $75 shipped, or best offer.

It's not that hard to find a Joe Sewell signed check, but I don't see any others out there right now to Stephenson.

1. This is a great piece!

2. I hope you're correct that most people know the careers of both. I think most have heard of Sewell and at least know he's in the HOF, but even on this forum I would guess a good chunk are not familiar with Riggs, and that's unfortunate... he and Lefty O'Doul are the greatest hitters who aren't in the hall IMO (understandable with their short careers).

3. I'm guessing the $9.94 was for a new tire in 1954.

4. I have no idea why autographs with such a cool story and provenance are not worth significantly more than what they sell for... if Panini got their hands on it, they'd chop the signature in half, install it cockeyed into some terrible flashy card, slap a 1/1 stamp on it and it'd go for 10x on eBay. Glad to see it'll find a home on here instead of facing that demise.
