FS: Extremely rare William S. "Big Bill" Devery campaign pinback. Devery, the most corrupt Chief of Police New York City has ever known, was, along with gambler Frank Farrell, an original owner of the NY American League franchise--the Yankees.
This campaign pin was made in 1902, when Devery ran for Ninth District Leader, a campaign he won. He was so corrupt, however, and such an embarrassment, that the Tammany Election Committee refused to seat him. The rarity of this pin cannot be overstated. I have never seen another. 1 1/4" diameter. Condition as in photos. $400, shipped. |
