I’ve often debated selling a huge portion of my collection (or trying to trade it) for a 52 Mantle. Good luck - I hope you get your 311

Just curious, Stan. Are you doing this for investment purposes, or for collecting, as in fulfilling a long-time dream of owning a 52 Mantle? As a memorabilia guy, it strikes me as giving up a lot of nice-looking cards of great players for one nice-looking card of a great player. Having said that, I would never want to disparage ANY choice any collector ever made. To each his own, and that's what makes this hobby so darned interesting. I hope you snag your dream Mantle soon.

Lifelong dream, the 311 is my grail. Ive wanted it for 40 years since I saw it on the cover of Baseball Cards magazine. Plus, I'm getting older and I was always a set guy. I got some satisfaction from putting them together but at the end of the day I'd put em on a shelf and rarely look at them. Lately I am thinking of pivoting to singles---top HOFers/key cards. Instead of 100 Clementes maybe just 2 or 3 really good/rare ones. Moving 100,000 cards that I never looked at or really enjoyed in one shot to get my 1 grail card that I will probably sleep with at night is more appealing to me. I am just a collector and while I could probably just buy a 311 in a "1" (its borderline financially) I would rather "trade" what I sold today for it. It's liberating, in a way, too---even though I left $$ on the table moving it in bulk, I want that Mantle. Having space is nice, "starting over"/new direction is pretty appealing too.

very excited for you. I bought a Barry Larkin GU bat with stadium certificate from 1990 earlier this year. it was my grail. had to give up some nice items to get it, but every time I hold it in my hands and get to swing it.... it makes the trade well worth it. I'm sure you'll find the same is true for your Mantle. it's like the satisfaction of a parent seeing their child sleep with a Christmas gift they received.

Wow what a gutsy thing to decide to do! Your collection was a beauty, and so is your 311. Good luck on the next leg of your journey. oh and make sure that chair you get is electric

Ha! I think I settled on getting a round comfy chair that spins. Its oversized and could make a nice nap chair.

Thanks for everyones kudos, I'm still a bit giddy I own this card.

Also heres a before and after of the card room. Still a bookcase full of mostly 80s football left I want to move but its not terribly valuable but if anyone wants to make a drive to Central Fla I'll give a good deal
