Just playing around here with history. We know who we consider the greatest of all time (GOAT), but let's cover the human angle, by posting a card of a player who made a historic error before becoming the GOAT. Babe Ruth being tagged out a second base by Rogers Hornsby to end the 1926 World Series comes to mind.

Walter Johnson was well on his way to being the goat of the 1924 World Series by losing the first two games he pitched. The Nationals fought back, though, against the powerhouse Giants, setting the stage for a seventh game in which Bucky Harris found himself out of arms--they had played every day for seven days--with the game tied 3 to 3 in the ninth inning. What Harris did have, however, was the GOAT sitting in his bullpen and brought Johnson in with only one day's rest since taking a pounding at the Polo Grounds two days earlier. Handing Johnson the ball on the mound, Harris told him, "It's your game now, Walter," meaning whatever happened he was in the game to win or to lose. In the press box, Christy Mathewson, covering the game for the Walsh Syndicate, jumped up and said, "Oh, no, they can't let Walter lose again, it will kill him!" Instead, this game--the greatest ever played in the estimation of many--became Johnson's finest hour.

Nice idea for a thread, Brian.
Great story Hank. All I got is a card I bought raw some time back... W575-1
