I don't know the most recent but Ty Cobb and Mel Ott both hit home runs at age 18.

After a quick Google search, looks like there was a dozen or so players who have hit homers in MLB at the age of 18...but only one at the age of 17. Who is it?

I believe he is also the only player alive to have played in an American League or National League game during WW II

He's the "youngest" and the "second youngest" to homer in MLB.

This makes me think of the character "the oldest living Chicago Cub" in the book version of Field of Dreams. The answer did in fact play there briefly.

I looked it up. I was sort of in the ballpark with the Japanese question.

In full disclosure, it's not an answer I previously knew...I stumbled across it after your initial question. (I'll post the answer for other people later tonight).
Maybe we can use this thread as a running Trivia section? |

Bobby Shantz is correct...in his 1st season at age 23 he pitched for Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in 1949...he will be 98 in 3 weeks.

I think there are only 4 living players that played in an American League or National League game prior to 1950...Tommy Brown and Bobby Shantz have already been named...since Shantz is the only American Leaguer the remaining 2 are obviously National Leaguers...one of them had a nice career and was a popular player on an idolized team...the other player only had a cup of coffee prior to 1950 but did play a few more games several years later in the 50's...name these 2 players.
