Does Vintage 1 mean Type 1 or just a vintage photo?

The Type scale was made up by psa. Rhys marks his original photos as Vintage 1,2,3 etc. Which are essentially the same as the type scale. Psa actually created and patented the type system. I'm assuming he's not allowed to use the term in his auction classifications? Which I actually like his approach because it's not psa related terminology.

I would recommend not using psa as your main judgement for how you approach photos. They're ok at the best of times and horrendous at the worst.
I trust Rhys 100x over psa. He should make an identification guide, it would be really insightful and helpful to say the least.

If you want to learn, use resources David Rudd Cycleback has created. He actually knows what he's talking about.

Default Grading Photographs

Jim Chapman's just published book on baseball photography, mentioned in recent links on Net 54, contains an excellent discussion about the various grading systems for baseball photos. Dennis Goldstein

For newbies into photos, besides Jim's book, RMY goes into quite a bit of detail in the "Rules/FAQ" section of their website explaining how they determine condition, but also Vintage 1, 2, etc. And agreed on trusting Rhys over PSA.
