Kyle Schwarber is hitting lead-off for the Phillies.
After leading the non-Aaron Judge world in HRs with 46 while batting a cool' .218... He has decided below the 'Mendosa line' can be productive??? Here is how he lines up against some of the most anti-productive seasons: UPDATED thru 6/24/23 Legend- Name-YEAR-AB-H-HR-RBI-BB-SO-BA-OBP-SLG-OPS Rob Deer-1991--------448-80-25-64-89-175-.179-.314-.386-.700 Adam Dunn-2011-----415-66-11-42-75-177-.159-.292-.277-.569 Chris Davis-2018------470-79-16-49-41-192-.168-.243-.296-.539 Joey Gallo-2022-------350-56-19-47-56-163-.160-.280-.357-.638 Kyle Schwarber-2023-274-50-20-41-54-98-.182-.323-.434-.758

I understand the game changes over time, but to me, it's absolutely disgraceful that we have so many players hovering around the lower echelon of the .200's for batting average. I guess this is what happens when every pitcher throws 98+ and so many pitchers are being used.
Schwarber is an oddity. He's a net negative on defense, and he can't play DH because Harper is there due to injury. He either hits one into the cheap seats, walks or strikes out.

Schwarber will heat up with the summer weather. It always happens. He's a good on-base guy and tends to play well out of the leadoff spot. He'll never hit .300 but he is what he is - one of the best power hitters in the game.

It was painful to watch Chris Davis' 2018. But I didn't realize he struck out 150 times more than he walked.

I sympathize to anyone who has one of these boat anchors on their team.
I still remember the amount of profanities I generously gave to the clouds when the news came that the Tigers signed Javier Baez for 140 million...
