Saw this today shopping around. Guess the price the business wanted for it. Didn't measure it but I guestimate 6x9in.
Quote from Jon Canfield's site: "Early Yum Yum tobacco tins are virtually impossible to locate. The one pictured above was offered for at auction many years ago. The exact whereabouts of the tin are currently unknown and I have been unable to locate another tin since then. Affixed to the outside of the Yum Yum tin is a label that reads “Cards are placed at the bottom of the Box.” Approximate value of a Yum Yum tin (with card disclosure) would be $1250.00+."

Not even close. Hint: It wasn't a card shop or anything like that.

$2500 is the asking price from an antique shop. I believe Jon Canfield would agree that the price is reasonable. Not for me though.

Ok, I'm just happy to have my nice Colgan's tin. I saw it in an antique shop about 35 years ago and was happy to find gum and a card in the tin.
I'd just love to have a Yum Yum card. I had one many years ago but ended up selling it after an incredible offer was made for it. There's a good hobby story that goes with that, but I'll save it for another time.

Reasonable? Not even close in my opinion.
The tin picture on Jon's site is rectangular and pre-ATC formation in 1890. It clearly held a card as labeled. The round pails are post-ATC formation as noted by the word "successor". I have found a few that have sold on eBay in the last two years averaging ~$180. Given the condition of the one you pictured, I think the antique shop would be lucky to get $100. One of the eBay sold round pails was from Factory 3 First District of IL. Not sure if any tobacco cards came out of IL post-ATC formation. Jeff |

When I first posted, I felt the tin was way overpriced. Jon's tin was rectangular, and this one was round. Just amazed how much someone could overprice it that much. That's why I started the guessing game.
