I generally dont care or know a lot about pop reports, but I wanted to research one of my favorite cards the 1915 Zeenut Fred McMullen (sic McMullin). PSA has 3 listed and SGC has 13 listed...I have found pictures of 13 out of the 16.
2 questions: 1. How accurate are the pop reports?; 2. Does anyone happen to have scans/pics of the 3 I am missing...or any raw or others I have missed? Here is a detailed breakdown of what I have found as far: 1915 Zeenut Fred McMullen Cards PSA Graded 5 – 44228643 $4,670.40 Leland’s 2019 Fall 1 – 27740463 (hole punch) $4,800 REA 2022 Spring *Missing PSA ATH - Note: The 0ct 2018 Cleansweep Auction catalog mentions two PSA grade example sales: PSA 1 on 10-2017 for $5,700, which was the hole punch 27740463 card, and a PSA 2 sale for $7,000. This PSA 2 isn’t listed in PSA’s pop report and I have not been able to find a picture or sale of this card. SGC Graded 4 – 8543511 $6,600 Heritage Dec 5, 2019 40 (3) – 1277068-001 $7,050 REA 2011 Spring -3 – 2140007 (same card as SGC 1277068-001 in an updated holder/label $6,600 REA 2019 Fall 40 (3) – 1277137-144 $4,148 REA 2012 Spring 40 (3) – 8174055-001 (crease) $5,466 Cleansweep Oct 2018 40 (3) – 1370283-018 $4,560 Heritage Dec 13, 2020 2 – 6069233 (water stain on front upper left) $2,940 Love of the Game 2023 Fall -30 (2) - 1213110-013 – old SGC holder for 6069233 *Missing a SGC 2 20 (1.5) – 8170527-001 (“Rare” on the back) $5,100 REA 2018 Fall 20 (1.5) – 1245643-001 (scuff on left arm) $4,024.88 Mile High June 10, 2010 10 (1) – 1217299-016 (Buck Barker Collection, wrinkled, notes on back) 1 – 4312121 (faded front, scribbles on back) $3,000 REA 2022 Summer WITH COUPON 20 (1.5) – 1272312-141 (upper left crease) $7,170 Heritage May 17, 2014 *Missing SGC 1 Last edited by ThomasL; 03-08-2024 at 12:45 PM. |

Sorry about the format there...
As you can see I found two SGC cards have been resubmitted and given new holders In the pop reports I am missing info and images of: PSA - ATH SGC 20 SGC 1 with coupon |

Maybe Mark Macrae or one of the other Zeenut experts can chime in with their thoughts, but my gut tells me that there are just as many raw examples as graded in collections out there.

In around January of 2004 I found one in the biggest pick up I have had so far. It didn't have a coupon and I think I got around 1200-1500 for it...,
Here is a link to what I found, where I had cut and pasted before ![]() I honestly don't remember if I had it graded or not... https://www.net54baseball.com/showth...ht=trucker+boy

Leon do you happen to have an image/scan of that old card of yours?
Here is the one with coupon of the two graded I have found |

I do not maintain a file of scans, but have owned several over the years. Many have unique flaws (almost like fingerprints), and like most 1915's tend to gravitate towards the lower end of the condition scale

Tom, I was a little surprised at the distribution between the TPGs (13 for SGC and 3 for PSA). My guess is that if someone purchased the card in a TPG holder, they probably didn't cross it over else we'd probably see more PSA graded cards. Good luck with the search.

Yes, that was the only full set of Western Playgrounds known at the time. It had an unknown player in it. Chad Drier (RIP) bought the set from me and I flew to his house in Santa Barbara to deliver them. It was low 6 figures. My wife wanted me to deposit the check before the plane trip back LOL...
That is when I found out you can't deposit a 6 figure check into an ATM..(at least at B of A at that time) And looking back at the list, I guess my McMillen did have a coupon. I know it was beat up. Interestingly, I had Mark Macrae (hi Mark) on the phone as I was unpacking the piles of Zs sent in shrink wrap. Mark would tell me about each one as i pulled them from the stacks...with the McMillen one bringing a little excitement. Quote:

I recently purchased this one, which was part of Buck Barker's collection with his notes on the back...it is rough but honestly IMO it has the most character of all the graded cards out there. I believe Mark Macrae once owned this one. Macrae is a legend in his own right as all Zeenut collectors know!
(for some reason my scanner does not scan Zeenuts very well) |
