While I tend to agree with their general theme and conclusions, I am sick of looking at threads about PWCC and card doctoring. Lets look at some cards!
According to Wikipedia, the great Ty Cobb once regarded Wagner as "maybe the greatest star ever to take the diamond." No further description is needed for this baseball (and baseball card) icon. Show your Wagners! |

Still one of my favorites and I have had nearly all of them from the T206 on down, this one of a kind and fairly large size. You will see the Horner image still has the PITTSBURGH on the jersey, normally removed on most card issues.

I won this Wagner card in the 2007 National Mastro Auction for a client of mine. This is the closest I'll ever get to owning one.

Working on an M101-4/5 back run. Notice that there are two Famous and Barrs. Wagner is one of a few high number cards that comes both as an M101-5, and a much rarer M101-4.

Jay, that m101-4/5 back run, is 1000% awesome. I knew you were working on the run, but had never seen them all together like that. That has to be one of the tougher and coolest back runs out there; the Altoona Tribune is especially cool, I think.

First, a slightly long story about how I got these...
Richard Gilbert Potter was a salesman and sometime photographer who collected Louisville local history photographs from the period 1880 to 1930 and took his own photos through the 1960s. Potter then copied and peddled the images for use as decoration in many Louisville businesses, hotels, and restaurants. The photographs document Louisville street scenes, historic buildings, Louisville mayors, the Potter family, celebrities, sporting events, including horse racing at Churchill Downs, and local professional and amateur baseball. Several of his photos were sent by Potter personally to John Weyhing, nephew of the Old Judge Weyhings, John and Gus, who were from Louisville. John was a priest and well-known around town since he was a chaplain for several local organizations as well as Churchill Downs. Potter would have known that John was Gus' nephew. The first photo is a picture of Gus Weyhing with Honus and the second, as you can see, is Honus with Dick Potter. Upon his passing, John's brother, Ed took possession of the photos. Ed died three years ago. Ed was my friend. His wife Mary recently came across the photos and knew that I would enjoy having them both because of the link to baseball and because it would be a link for me to Ed. In addition to the photos of Honus I've included one of the latter-day Weyhing boys... Last edited by kkkkandp; 05-05-2019 at 10:32 AM. Reason: Correct typos. |

Absolutely amazing eye candy in this thread! Jay, your M101 back run is my favorite - I can only dream about getting this far with my M101 WaJo back run! It appears to me that SGC has incorrectly identified a couple of your cards as being 1917 issues. Ryan, I agree that the Altoona Tribune is special, but to me, Jay's Mall Theatre card of Hans is even more special.

Thanks Val! It has been fun to put together and it is not finished yet. I agree with you and Ryan that the Tribune and Mall Theatre cards are special. However, my favorite is the Wares since the store was very close to where I grew up in the Bronx. Also, if you remember The Dick Van Dyke Show, fictional characters Rob and Laura Petrie (Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore) lived in New Rochelle.

I have no idea why this particular card is rated at only a 1. But I must say that, of the Orange Borders that I have seen, 1 is an unusually high number. I do not think that I have ever seen an Orange Border with a higher number. It may have something to do with cards that are hand cut. Of course, this did not seem to have a bad effect on the original Mastro T206 Wagner.........
