Special shout out to younger vets. Seems to me like the older dudes are more visible, being honored at games, etc. Special should out to the men and women who have fought in the middle east and other places in the last few decades. Many of which have served multiple tours of duty under incredibly difficult circumstances. Saw a documentary on public television once of a platoon in Afghanistan and it was simply terrifying.

Thanks for starting this post! Although I don't post on NET54 (but I'm on here daily reading posts), as I'm a game used collector, I do want to also take this opportunity to thank all Veterans for their service!

I served 30 years in the Navy (1978-2008). I would really like to see some pics from other veterans. Thanks!

This is a picture of my grandfather. He was a wonderful person. I think he worked in engineering constructing bridges. He sometimes did see battle. He did not talk much to us about the war but when my brother and I asked if he ever shot anyone this was his reply. "I am going to tell you this once and I never want to talk about it again. Yes. We were engaging in a fight and I shot one of the soldiers shooting at us. It was a 16ish year old blonde hair boy". It just so happens that his son (my Uncle) was 16 with blonde hair back here in the US.

We never asked him about it again.

I was a RADAR Specialist stationed for 2 years at a Strategic Air Command (SAC) base in Maine which was loaded with F102 Fighter planes and B52 bombers. Those gigantic
flying machines (B52's) have been patrolling the skies since 1952.
In the Fall of 1962, these "Big Birds" were reassigned to Florida as a result of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was awesome to see all of them take-off from our 11,000-ft runway.
An even more beautiful sight when all our B52's returned 2 weeks later. One of my biggest thrills was sitting in the cockpit of a B52. The cockpit's instrument panel, (meters,
switches, fuel gauges, Radar indicators, etc.) are absolutely mind-boggling.

The last year of my four year career was at the Air Force Technical Training Center (near Champaign, Illinois) teaching Analog & Digital electronics and RADAR systems.

Thanks Murph. For me - 2 tours to the Kosovo conflict and 1 to the gulf. US Army.

This is a pic of my grandfather arriving in North Africa WWII. Eventually ended up in Italy. He served under Gen Patton. I found this pic in a Time Life book at a junk shop. He told me about many of his buddies that didn’t make it. Only time he ever talked about his service time that I ever heard.

Profound gratitude to all Veterans for their sacrifice & commitment to our Nations freedom.

And a remembrance for:

My Grandfather Leonard Brindle who fought the Germans at Tobruk, North Africa, and chased Hitler all the way up Italy.

My former wife's Uncle who disappeared on Tarawa, never to be found.

My Uncle Herb who did 2 tours as a Marine Pilot in Southeast Asia, and later lost his battle with the Demons that came from that.

My Uncle Lew who didn't really want to go to Vietnam but did his duty, and came back a changed man.

Every MIA Veteran who never made it home.

Grant was one of the first men to enlist when the United States entered World War I in April 1917, and he served as a captain in the 77th Infantry Division. During the fierce battle of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, all of Grant's superior officers were killed or wounded, and he took command of his troops on a four-day search for the "Lost Battalion." During the search, an exploding shell killed Grant on October 5, 1918. He was the first Major League Baseball player killed in action in World War I. He was buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in Lorraine, France.

Here I am, climbing out of my jet in England. I was a pilot in the USAF and the Royal Air Force, from 1990-2010. I remember the Soviet Union collapsing when I joined ROTC in 1988. We thought we'd all be out of business...not so much. Twenty years of flying around the Middle East, with a brief period in southern Italy, while Yugoslavia disintergrated. Plus a Haitain coup d'etat every couple of years. Kept me busy, after all...

My 5th+/- generation Grand Father , Francis Letts was a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion of Middlesex County, New Jersey State Militia during the Revolutionary War years of service 1776 -1781 a rumor has it he took part of the Battle of Trenton still being verified.
My Grand Father Nels J. Petersen was a Wolfhound in the 27th Infantry who fought in Siberia as a replacement from 1919 -1920 protecting the Railway
