Actually, 100% secretarial.
For starters, Paige dropped the second "l" from his nickname many years before this was signed. |

Not sure if secretarial or not, but not authentic.

Frank is as good as they get on these autographs nowadays!
But for WIW the signature is not good. The second "l" should have been dropped by this time as Billy Cox3 stated, and the "ge" transition is slow and forced with the separation and angle off as well. Last edited by Klrdds; 10-22-2022 at 10:57 AM. |

It's assuredly secretarial; I'm quite familiar with this style.
Other examples of this style have also incorporated Paige's oft-used Best Wishes From But, unlike Paige, they knew how to spell the word "From"! Dead giveaway. Inexplicably, Paige thought it was "Fromn". Always way woo many humps at the end! He had this problem with words that ended in m, as is evidenced by a rare handwritten letter I've owned. According to one biographer, Paige was supposedly a prolific letter-writer while on the road, and would even bring along a portable typewriter to carry on his correspondence. This begs the question: where on earth did all that correspondence go? Surely much more should have survived, especially considering he corresponded with sportswriters and other people within the game, both black and white. Offhand, I can only think of a single typewritten letter and the aforementioned handwritten one that have surfaced the entire time I've been at this. The latter was practically a one-page run-on sentence, which seemingly started and finished in mid-air, replete with mmmmnnnn's at every turn and not even signed at the conclusion. He did refer to himself in the third person midway through the letter, so technically it does contain a first name-only autograph. Has anyone else seen any other letters? I'm not talking about a brief note on the back of a team-issued PC photo; there have been a couple of those pop up over the years. Edited to add: It is unusual, however, to see the "Leroy" in this particular secretarial style. Usually, it was just "Satchell Paige", with or without the "Best Wishes From".
