Has anyone see this? Apparently the cards showed up in an online auction. Curious how these things usually play out? I hope they catch them.

Makes no sense, why is the auction still up? Not a good look for a nonprofit aimed at helping kids.

I really dislike people who steal, especially in a case like this with the backstory.

Scumbags. And they obviously knew the guy too.
I hope he gets his stuff back. Window A/C units are terribly unsafe, easy points of entry into your house. One push and the thief is in. |

Ok...maybe I am slow...The story of the theft came out the other day. Aim Higher Foundation had an auction that is linked above but it ended in March of 2021. On this link, https://one.bidpal.net/aimhigherbaseball/welcome it implies the cards came from Father John Ubel and it gets even more twisted...the cards were auctioned by PWCC.
If the guy was robbed I hope he gets his stuff back but either journalism is not what it once was and anyone with Word can call him(her)self a reporter or the people reporting these crimes need to think through their stories better.

The cards definitely not worth millions, so there must have been a lot of memorabilia.

Awful that the cards were stolen, of course.
However, while reading the story, it bothered me that it didn't go into Horace Moore's history. Along with a couple of generalized statements about not being allowed in the majors, the most we get is: "Juakee Moore says his dad, Horace Moore, is a former Negro League baseball legend in Huntsville." His son says so - that's it? There's no apparent effort to research Moore's history to at least state his playing time as a fact, instead leaving it as just a claim attributed to a son. I wanted to see that angle fleshed out. What team/s did he play for? Position? How was he a legend? The story sets up a proud history but then just stepped around it. Not every player could be Satchel or Gibson, but every person has a story. Google's first search result helped scratch the itch. Moore played for the Birmingham Black Barons. I won't ruin it, but Moore has a fun story, and it's a short read: https://www.huntsville.org/blog/list...optimist-park/ |
