I recently submitted a '49 Jackie Robinson (a PSA 4) to SGC for a crossover with a minimum 4 or better. I give SGC kudos for turning it around the same day the card was received but am frustrated that it did not cross even at the same grade. It's not like I was expecting a higher grade either as upon my review felt it was a pretty solid 4. And I wasn't inclined to crack it out to submit but maybe I should have.
Admittedly, there is corner and edge wear, and front centering favors the upper right a bit but it's print registration is good and it has great eye appeal. I've attached pics of the card here for others to offer their opinion. At this point, whether it crossed or not isn't so much the point as it's just fine in its PSA case. I just happen to prefer the SGC case for my older vintage cards. My gripe is mostly that if they can turn a card around the same day, couldn't they, at least for cards with a value of let's say $5,000 or more, be a little more customer friendly and provide some feedback on what they deemed the cards flaws. If it's a $20 card, so be it, but for the fees charged on cards like this it just doesn't sit right. It's also pushing me a lot closer to not submitting cards for grading or crossover anymore because its become such a roll of the dice with inconsistency between TPGers. Anyway, I appreciate the opportunity to vent a little. |

The back has clear roller marks that smudge almost 2 lines of print.
A 4 is generous. Nice eye appeal I'll agree but I'm surpised it did not get a qualifier from PSA. I'd be pretty content with a 4. SGC considered it a 3 or a 3.5 most likely. The colors on the front are fantastic! Last edited by vthobby; 06-23-2022 at 10:24 PM. |

My guess is the bottom right corner….. unless the pic angle is causing it…. Something looks off to me. If it were mine, I would never send it anywhere at the off chance it got lost/damaged. It’s a beauty!!!!!

Maybe think about selling your PSA 4, and then go out and purchase an acceptable SGC graded one, and pocket the difference?

I am surprised that didn't get a 4 from SGC. That said there is psychology involved when 1 grader is looking at another graders cards -think of it as a pissing match of sorts. Almost all post war cards command stronger market prices in PSA slabs, so if you want an SGC version I second the idea of selling your PSA example, buying an SGC slabbed example and pocketing the difference.
