Default 1958 Hires

I have been puttering around with a Hires Root Beer set for a couple of years now...Not serious about it, but picking a few here and there...no tabs, which as a collector I just prefer. I have noticed a rash of trimmed cards of that issue. You can make them look pretty clean, but jeez guys. It's pretty obvious that they have been done with the intent to deceive the buyer.

Todd: I’m not sure what your referencing. Can you please elaborate on your point?

I collected Hires in the 60's well before grading etc. and I can assure you many were issued this way. All the cards were not issued the same width.

Many of the images used in the set are from the same set of photos used in the 1955 Bowman set — just look for Connie Mack Stadium the background. Topps must of acquired the images when it bought Bowman, and used them in the Hires set. The knothole design was one Bowman was considering for its 1956 set when it sold.

As for trimming, I'm wondering if those many narrow cards you see a lot were just miscut?

That's interesting...I'm fairly new to the set I picked up a Mays and Aaron then said, "Why not?"
