Sad to hear, glad he lived a long full life. As a member of the 1966 Topps high number club his name will always have a positive connotation for me every time I hear it...

RIP...

What a pitcher! Check out his ERA yearly totals sometime. So sorry he has passed away. One of my favorites.

I recall Joe was one of the best pitchers in baseball when I started following the game. From looking at his stats, along with those of his teammates, he meets the true definition of a hard luck pitcher. In fact, he could lay claim to being one of the best pitchers ever with a career losing record. Here's his 1970 Topps Super card — I remember pulling one from a wax pack on a muggy day afternoon in Michigan that summer. Rest in peace.

He pitched for the Lincoln (NB) Chiefs in 1959, the year my family moved to Lincoln. I would ride my bike 3 miles to the ballpark and watch 2-3 innings and pedal furiously home so my mom wouldn’t ask questions. One of my early heroes. RIP

Thank you for posting Al. I wasn't aware how 'talented' GOD made him.

A proof set from his 1971 Topps coin.
