150 Tables Rosen Centre Hotel $5 admission $8 parking benefits hungry and homeless children. I wasn't planning on going to this show since it's about 3 hours south of here. But a few days ago my friend Patrick (lives in Jacksonville) texted me and wanted to know if I'd ride down with him heck yes! I parked at Cracker Barrel in JAX and we were on the road at 7AM and arrived right at opening at 9AM. Being a coin and toy show we didn't know what to expect and probably only 1/2 of the tables had cards. I have been saving and brought $1,653 cash with Pay Pal in reserve but only spent $283 total after gas money and admission. It was a fun show and good to catch up with my collecting buddy would I attend again probably not.
I did purchase a couple of expensive cards. Dealer had a 1940 Play Ball #1 Joe Dimaggio extreme paper loss on the front. The card was in an SGC 10 (poor) slab but was removed and there was glue on the card and the damage occurred as the glue stuck to the slab. Dealer had the "book" price $3,000 and $150 on the card saver and I asked to see the card the removed SGC flip was included. Nice back I offered $75 and got it for $80 as a set collector nice to knock this one off my list and at least it's real lol.
Uncle Dick was there and I bought a low grade 1935 National Chicle Football card I need for my set high #30 Ernie Caddel this is a beautiful set and if you don't know very tough priced at $165 negotiated to $140 Uncle Dick wouldn't budge lower glad to knock off another card only ten more to go (of 36) needs include Bronco Nagurski RC a $12,000 card gulp?
Interesting item of the day 1970 Dayton Daily News Bubble Gumless Card #6 Willie Mays these were cut out of the newspaper normally one piece with the photo on the left bio on the right. Well this one is cut in 1/2 and glued onto cardboard and it is a fantastic $5 pick-up!
Other pick-ups pictured three needed '52 Berk Ross cards, three needed 1971 Fleer Harlem Globetrotter cards these were only $1 each so I snagged all the Meadowlark Lemon cards too. Then some Post Cereal baseball cards for my sets including a tough 1963 Curt Flood.
