PSA has labeled each 1948 picture pack but one has Satchell in quotes and one does not. Anybody shed some light on this?

The script name version belongs to 1949 where as the other version is from 1948.

I cannot comment on the years of the two Paiges, but I can pass along this piece of advice:
If you rely on PSA to correctly identify the items they are grading, eventually you will get burned. |

Here is 1949 team issue.
Were there 2 1949 team issues with different Paige poses?

There were at least two manufacturers of these picture packs. The Cleveland Indians picture packs that are considered team issued ran at least from 1947 to 1963 in a format that was similar over the years, with most or possibly all of those sets available in complete set form with accompanying envelope. This would include the 1948 set where Satchel Paige (Satchell) is included in portrait form. The 1949 set included a Satchel Paige (Satchell) in a pitching pose.
Separate from these, another company known as The Big League Novelty Company published picture packs which included the Cleveland Indians, possibly the Pittsburgh Pirates, All Star packs, and a few other teams. In one of those Cleveland Indians sets, there is a Satchel Paige (“Satchell”) portrait with name in quotes. I also think this is a 1949 set based on the envelope which depicts Chief Wahoo wearing a crown from their 1948 championship. A set of these with envelope can be seen on worthpoint at the following link: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...ague-458777658 So, if you are keeping score, there are 3 Satchel Paige picture pack photos as follows: 1948 Team Issue: Satchel Paige, portrait (Satchell) 1949 Team Issue: Satchel Paige, pitching (Satchell) 1949 Big League Novelty Co: Satchel Paige, portrait (“Satchell”)

Attached is an REA auction denoting the Satchell in quotes from PSA as 1948 not 1949. Somebody is going to get mislead
