Has anyone else noticed these signs being sold on ebay? I bought one years ago, and have seen them offered dozens of times since then. I find it hard to believe that dozens of these were hanging at the old H&B factory as always seems to be mentioned in the description.
I've got to believe that someone is making these -- they look great, but $511 dollars for a modern fantasy piece? I'm very curious to see what others think. Greg http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_500wt_1128 |

If you've seen them offered dozens of times, that's an awful lot of bouncing around from one seller to another for what this guy says there were only 5 of to begin with. Not impossible I guess, but it's much more likely that something with so few examples would sit in someone's collection than to be re-offered every few months like that.

I'm not positive they are the same size but similar ones are embedded in the sidewalk around the Louisville Slugger factory in Louisville, KY. Every time I go there it seems that one or two are missing.

I laugh everytime I see those on ebay selling for hugh amounts of cash. The ebay seller treasureray has one every couple of weeks available. Legend has it those brass signs came from the now closed Fridays chain of restaurants. Also according to Brian Hillerich from HB, those signs never came from the old HB factory. Brian claimed he had never seen them and if they were from the factory, they would have had the number 125 in place of the BATS letters on the sign.
On the plus side, the signs are well made and are great display pieces if you collect bats. Also if anyone wants to give my $500 for my sign, please contact me immediately and I'll even throw in shipping. |

Sorry to drag out an old thread, but I saw this auction on Hunt's website today and couldn't believe the current price. This must be two uninformed collectors throwing around a lot of money..

Watching it live.... Everything seems to be going nuts in this Auction. Way above market value in many cases... Seems like memorabilia is entering a boom period much like cards did a while back.

Prices were surprising on some items for sure ,, the Schmidt , Jeter rookie and Greenberg bats all did well .
The ted Williams Jersey and Gehrig bat , I thought were lower than they should be .

It was absolutely insane . . . I wonder if the folks bidding on these items are in fact, investors, not from the hobby community . . . kind of like how certain real estate investment firms bought up some homes in certain markets. Would make sense, as Hunt is an international auction house, and "investors" are much morel likely to go there to buy a ton of high quality items quickly, in one day, as opposed to searching through Ebay. Perhaps non-collectors drove these prices up?

Wow! I have two of those signs hanging on entrances to my sports room. For that kind of money, I will NOT remove from the door but will instead ship you the door as well as the sign.
