I am sure we will see his uniform, or his glove, or one of his ball thrown from that game sold soon somewhere.

But it is still amazing

Your note confuses me, why would the sale of anything from the game change the nature of how we think about his performance?

I think what we should all recognize is our Net54 member BumpusJones was recognized for his own no-hitter in 1892! Good going Chris!

Congrats to Tyler Gilbert for his great performance, especially after spending 6 years in the minors. Unbelievable!!

It should be noted that Bumpus Jones was the ONLY pitcher to hurl a no-hitter in his ML DEBUT game. Breitenstein, Bobo Holloman and Tyler Gilbert tossed one in their first ML START.

One additional distinction is that although Bumpus Jones pitched his game when overhand pitching was finally allowed, but his mound distance was not from the current ML standard of 60' 6"...

Here's a toast to all of the aforementioned pitchers that were fortunate enough to accomplish this unique feat.
Hopefully Tyler Gilbert's career will fare better than Bobo Holloman.
No-hitter in early May of 1953, sent to the minors in July, 1953 never to return. Cross your fingers!

Hey Scott just curious what piece (item,Mem, etc) Do you think you will try and get for your collection to honor his accomplishment......

Hey Al,
Nice to hear from you.
Ideally, I would love to find a full ticket from Gilbert's no-hitter and get him to sign it for my no-hit ticket collection.
The fact that MLB teams are eliminating hard tickets is making this a challenge though...

I stopped going to Dodger games in person long ago because they pissed me off, and the traffic between my house and Anaheim to see the Angels is too much to bear, SO I don't really care about the answer to my hypothetical question, BUT, what would happen if I left my phone and credit card at home and decided to just walk up to the box office to buy a ticket to a game, assuming that they take cash, would they sell me a ticket?

Doug

Hi Doug,
It actually depends on the baseball team & stadium.
An e-ticket could be printed at home with a home computer, but that isn't an actual ticket of course. For ticket collectors like myself, that's a non-starter.

Some would allow you to buy a box office ticket if you presented them with that scenario. Others would actually tell you to borrow someone else's smart phone to get the e-ticket to gain entry. Also a non-starter.

In 2021 eight official no-hitters have been pitched now, plus an un-official no-hitter by MadBum. I have been able to find examples of 5 or 6 of these with a little help from some other collector friends, but it wasn't easy...

Hi Scott. I agree, that's not a "ticket".

That's pretty laughable "hi, sir or ma'am, you don't know me but can I borrow your multi-hundred dollar phone so that I can download a ticket to this game onto it, so that I can go in to watch the game?"

I would think that's a non-starter for the person whose phone you are trying to borrow. Hahahaha.

Curious which ones you are missing... good luck in your quest.

Doug

PS - Complete official game = no hitter, I don't care how many innings it was

I just called the Dodgers to ask about ticket purchase options, but their ticket call center is currently closed. The message says they are open until 9, but evidently it must be 9 eastern time.

They have a home game that starts in an hour.

I'm betting that a Monday night against the Pirates wouldn't have been soldout even it the ticketing call center stayed open until game time.

This a partial illustration of why I went from being a season ticket holder to being a guy who hasn't stepped foot in the stadium in more than 11 years.
