Default 1950s MLB jerseys Home/Away

In the 1950s how many jerseys did each MLB roster player receive for home and away games? More specifically I'm interested in the 1955 Yankees. I would guess each player would have 2 home and 2 away jerseys. Am I way off base?
Thank you!

That's the traditional thinking. Of course, more could have been made up for players who beat up their unis beyond repair, or possibly (in the case of the '55 Yankees) for play in the World Series.

I’ve always heard two as well in the 50s. Any idea if teams got all new Jersey’s from year to year? I know some teams sent used MLB jerseys to the minors but I’ve wondered if, in the 50s, teams reused last years jerseys for another season if they didn’t show wear and of course there was no design change that year.

I know that teams did sometimes continue using jerseys for the following year's spring training. I have a Dodger's jersey from 1961 that has been photo-matched to spring training in 1962, however I believe it was retired before the start of the 1962 season.

Thanks. The the exact info I was wondering about. Could a jersey tagged for a certain year actually have been used the prior year as well? It was pretty common to pass the ML used jersey down to the minors but I was curious if any teams, during lean years, tried to get two seasons of use.

If the year was stitched or written into the shirt it could be possible, but if the shirt had a year tag, it wouldn't be likely. For example, a shirt made for late season use in 1957 isn't likely to have a "Set 1 1958" tag, because those tags probably hadn't been made yet.

I know the OP asked about the 1950's, but I have an example of a Yankees road shirt made and used in late 1964 for the World Series, that was "tagged" 1965. The "tagging" was actually just "65" written in marker on the tail - no actual year tag. So, it was used for the 3 WS games in St. Louis, then 1965 and possibly additional use after that.

I also recently got a Mets shirt that is tagged 1964 but was also used in 1965 (uniform numbers were added to the front.) That type of thing is common - a shirt tagged for one year also being used the next year.
