Hey folks. I am trying to figure out where the photo on this E121 Caramel was taken? I thought it looked like Wrigley but a buddy of mine thinks the upper deck or cover over the grandstand wouldn’t have been there in 1921. Then I started to think it was likely that most of the pictures were probably taken in PA or somewhere close to where American Caramel was located. Does anyone know?

I am pretty sure that Wrigley had grandstand cover in 1921. But that is anecdotal and assumption on my part rather than having done any research other than googling and finding a few pictures.

I think so too from the pictures I’ve seen. Also, I’m pretty sure that’s a home jersey because the doesn’t have the CUBS lettering across the front. At least according to this website https://mlbcollectors.com/CHIjerseys.php

Michael Osacky could definitively answer this question if he’s on here. Ricky Tatara likely also.

Excellent. I knew net54 was the right place to go for the answer. I am very curious to see what they and others think.

The original image as a Phillie..... LOC says it was taken in 1915

According to the LOC
"Original data provided by the Bain News Service on the negatives or caption cards: Killifer, Phila NL, 1914." "Corrected title based on research by the Pictorial History Committee, Society for American Baseball Research, 2006." corrected to 1915 https://www.loc.gov/resource/ggbain.27123/ Last edited by oldeboo; 07-09-2021 at 10:24 AM. |

I wonder if the image used for Rogers Hornsby was actually a different year as well? Because according to one of the websites on uniforms, the away jersey for the Cardinals uniform that year had CARDINALS across the chest.

The Killefer Phillies image looks like the Polo Grounds , based on the frieze on the facade in the background.

Thanks for the work everyone. I thought the uni looked a bit off from what I could find, but I didn't see the CUBS lettering and used that to infer it was a home image. Very surprised to see he was a Phillie at the time of the photo, which significantly preceded the issuance of the card. Great work.
