Blast from the past - who had one of these as a kid?

LOL, I had at least one of those as a kid, and I likely stuffed it with so many cards that I split it at the seams until they all spilled out.

Also had a similar case for Matchbox cars that I likely did the same to.

I had zero care about condition of my collectibles as a little kid. I was all about accumulation.

Same here. If I remember correctly, I only had football cards from 76-78T in there. They got all chewed up being overstuffed into those little shelves. Poor Payton rookies....

Had an older version. This is a picture someone else posted. I have the red version. I don't know if they only made them one year, but mine has a slot for the Seattle Pilots.

Still have mine somewhere in the abyss! My cousin (a few years older than me) had the hard plastic green one. Looked like a military locker. I liked the look of his better than mine!

Mine was a green one...I filled it with 1968 Topps team sets. My extra or double even triple 1968 Topps (and 1967, 1969, 1970 and some 1971 and 1972 before I moved on to model cars, comic books and Hardy Boys books) went into shoe boxes. All of which I kept under my bed. When I turned 19, and was failing miserably at Memphis State University (now U of M) with their tuition money, my dad and mom sat me down at the dinner table one evening. My dad said, "Son, it's time you got a full-time job, and got your own apartment. College just isn't for you. We love you, we're there for you, but it's time." All those cards were still under the bed. But I moved out, and moved on. I quit MSU and my part-time job at K Mart, and spent 4 years at a wastewater plant in Memphis. Then I quit wastewater and went into the Navy (for 4 years that turned into 26). Home on leave in the 1980s, my best (and still to this day best) friend Louis found a shoe box of his cards while rummaging the attic of his parent's house (where he grew up)...all stars from the 1950s and 60s, and all in amazingly good condition. I went with him to the flea market at the Fairgrounds, to a card seller/buyer's booth, who lit up like a Christmas tree over Louis's cards. As he explained, "What I can pay for these is far less than they are worth. But here is my offer for them. $500." Louis took it. I immediately went home, and asked my mom if my stuff was still in my old room. "I asked you over and over what you wanted me to do with your old things. You said to do whatever. So I got rid of that stuff". Well, needless to say, it has taken decades to get back what I walked away from, including a foolish sale of some of my re-acquired cards in the late 1990s, when money was tight, for a little of nothing, pennies on the dollar, much like my friend Louis. But I finally learned from that, and vowed never to do anything like that again. But yes, at one time as a kid I had the green locker, filled with mint 1968 Topps cards, all of them obtained pack by pack...

I may also have a red one around somewhere...

I don't really recall seeing the blue ones at all.

I had both the red and the blue one as a kid. I picked up the red one in the original post recently for 5 bucks.

I had one for baseball cards and another for football cards. I remember taking them to my friend's house to trade cards. Those were the days.

I have 2 of the green ones from childhood. They are 1968 or earlier as they only had 10 teams per league.

i had a green one as well, however took on vacation and left in the back window of our 69 Mercury, windows closed. It melted, got deformed and no longer closed properly.

I found one at a flea market a few years back. Always wanted one as a kid, but never had one. Couldn't pass this one up since it came in original box. A bit rough but still happy to have one!

I had the one pictured in the initial post of the thread, and from what I remember, it was plastic and it had stickers with team names on them. The team names weren't part of the doors. Mine must have been made later since the red one has the Seattle Pilots listed as a team which I didn't have a sticker for since they didn't exist by the mid 70s when I got my card locker.

Well, that brings back some memories - had a couple of those back in the day. Would love to grab another and stuff it full of well-loved 77 and 78 Topps cards organized by team. Thanks for sharing...

That's correct, the one that I posted in the OP was from the late 70s. Here's it listed in the 1979 Sears Wishbook.

Incidentally, there's a great website called WishbookWeb.com where they've digitized lots of old Christmas Catalogs from Sears, JC Penney and others. It goes back to 1937.

I didnt, but I certainly had friends that did. Those were common sites when trading cards at buddies' houses as a kid in the 80s. However, I did have a similar case that held He-Man action figures. Hahaha

I had a round plastic "baseball" shaped locker as a kid in the late 80's that came probably from the local Roses store (discount retailer and basically our version of Walmart in NC before they were widespread). Funny enough I can't find a picture of it online. The outside of the baseball had red stitches and everything and perhaps the MLB logo. There were stickers that came with it for the team names, and the same similar shelves inside and you assigned each space a team. It closed with 2 plastic snaps. This thing of course was murder on corners if you put cards in it and took it anywhere for 2 days in a row, and this was something that struck me even as an 11 year-old with '87 Topps cards. I didn't use it for long, finding discarded shoeboxes much more practical.

Good memory, though.
