1967 Dexter Press Coca Cola Cards

Well, I saw this card listed on a small auction listed as "EUNO FRANK". Clearly whoever did the listing isn't a baseball fan and couldn't read the signature. In any event, I did't recognise the card but a bit of searching showed that it's a 1967 Dexter Press card.

I've got to say that I really love these cards, they just look great. I think I'm going to start building this set. How did I not know about these before?

Anyone else collect Dexter Press cards? Let's see 'em.

Love the Dexter Press stuff. I can't speak to other teams but the Orioles have 'cards' in 5x7 and postcard size formats. I believe some other teams did get issued as Coke premiums.

The photos were also 'pirated' for a national set of something called Starliner stickers. At least I assume they were pirated, they might have been licensed to them.

Thanks for the link. I think I've actually gotten one of the Starliner cards. I'll see what it's like when it's arrived in the mail but I've just noticed the lack of white border (Doh!). I only paid $3 so I'm not fussed.

On the plus side, now I know about the Dexter set and I'll be looking out for them.

Great post. Made me go look at my set of 1967's. Does anybody know how many were added for the "all-stars" with a shorter bio on the reverse? I did not count mine but I would guess I have about 8 different - exact same photo with the shorter bio. There could have been 12 but I don't have that many. I can count and list mine if anybody is interested.

From what I've read, there are 228 cards in the set (18 teams with 12 cards each + 12 All-Star cards).

For what it may be worth to any of you, I wrote a book about the immediate post-war regional / food issues, entitled Never Cheaper By the Dozen : Those Special "Free Prize" Sports Collectibles from the Golden Era of 1947 - 1971. I must say straight off that my book is an E-book on a CD, to be read by inserting it in the disk drive of your computer or laptop, IF it has that slowly-antiquating technology. At nearly 470 pages, you shan't be short-changed for your money, I assure you.

The reason I am posting is because my seventh chapter is devoted to Coca-Cola's football caps, baseball caps, and the gorgeous premium baseball cards Coke commissioned the Dexter Press printing company to prepare for their large-scale promotion in 1967 (i.e. the OP). Cards were available in 1968 as well, but on a much smaller scale, as well as size. Therefore, I concentrated on their grandiose first baseball issue. Experts of the set would probably not be enlightened, but collectors with a fancy for such cards would be given much to melt their hearts. Funny, for my one fancy photo, I included two graded cards, one of which was Ernie Banks, my childhood hero.

Long to short, should any of you be intrigued enough to desire a copy, Google the title, and you shall find the 2016 press release from Sports Collectors Digest, written by then-editor Tom Bartsch, which includes a nice overview and ordering instructions. Also, a Google search will send you to a pair of Sports Collectors Daily articles written by Rich Mueller.

I warn you, if it's a checklist you wish for, my book is not about checklists. Those may be found elsewhere.

Thanks for the links. I particularly liked the back story of Joe Capicotto. This is now one of the sets thst I'm actively building. The extra history around it is really appreciated.
