This seems to be a great place to ask for help. Take a look at the first Henry Chadwick autograph and please tell me what you think. I haven't seen it up close and don't have a ton more info on it. I do have an opinion on it, but don't want to influence any responses.
For what it's worth, the second signature has been authenticated by PSA. Thank you in advance. Jim |

Im not a handwriting specialist but by looking at the last name, every letter seems to be different except the "K". However, I do know my autograph, uhhhh signature changes constantly. Just recently I wanted to move a retirement account from Hong Kong to the US and since my signature didnt "match" to the documents I signed in 2011, I had to drive 9 hours round trip to the closest HSBC so they could witness my signature. So, as to pen flow, pressure, etc, I would have no idea

I was going to say no based on all the other ones I've seen, but then I found this one that sold in 2007 at Robert Edwards Auctions with a JSA cert (take that for whatever it's worth). At first I thought it was the same one, but there's a slight variation...looks pretty darn close.

What kind of medium is it on?
From the photo I wouldn't buy it. |

FWIW in my collection at the same time I had 4 Chadwick autographs of all different types from different eras with differing signature variations but they all had some basic characteristics. They were a :
Business card Cut from legal document Handwritten note Envelope In your posted examples the first ( on the left ) I would not be comfortable with LOA or not . The second one ( the book) is good IMO and an accepted signature variation of Chadwick's. |

I sure appreciate everyone chiming in. A decent amount of my collection is online at CooperstownExpert.com. Chadwick has a page as does every HoFer and about 300 other notable folks. Hope you'll take a look. |

In the OP, I believe the one on the Left is a forger copy of the REA auction posted further below. I would love to see the full medium that the autograph is on. If it is simply a "cut", I would feel very confident.
As for the one on the right, Klrdds knows more about Chadwick than I do. I know the autograph originated from the 1991 DuMouchelle auction and there was no clear idea where those autographs originated from, but there was some beautiful autographs sold for crazy (1991) prices. Everything was deemed authentic, as there was no real internet then to compare autographs to, and obviously no TPAs. IMHO, I personally was never a fan of that version simply because they don't match the material released from his great-grandson in 2013....but I could be very wrong. Again, just my 2 cents. |

This signature with the loop 'd " into the "w" and the broad stroke "k" in Chadwick is the more common and favored version of his signature. Like most signature variations I've never heard of an explanation for the striking differences in his signature in the example in picture 2 on the right except that it was a more " printed " format than his formal script.
