In defense of Mr Bickford
An All Star in 1949, in 1950 led the National League in starts (39)complete games (27) innings pitched and batters faced. He also tossed a no hitter versus the powerful Brooklyn Dodgers lineup on August 11 1950 for a career highlight. So at least he could throw! All that overuse burned up his arm and he was out of the game in 5 years. Sadly, he died young at age 39 of stomach cancer. RIP Vern and we are still talking about you all these years later!!! HOF veterans committee take note LOL
