I am finishing up an awesome Hall of Fame football card collection. I have the greats from Sammy Baugh to Michael Strahan.
Here's my question. OJ Simpson is one of the greatest running backs of all time and he is currently in the NFL HOF. However, I despise him as a human being. Would it be ok to not add his card to my collection? Or would it be noticeably incomplete without OJ Simpson? |

I think it's a personal decision.....

+1 on what Leon posted.
For me personally I separate what players done on and off the field. I collect because of what they done on the field. |

For me the decision would be: Is this player's card part of a set or collection I was putting together? I have a couple of OJ cards in completed Topps and Kelloggs sets. I wouldn't put him in a football 'star' binder though.
I have a long-time project in which I collect a card of every player I've had on my fantasy football team (which goes back to 1980). In that binder is an Aaron Hernandez card. Ugh, but I'm not going to have a collection of 'every guy minus one'. There are more than a few guys who are enshrined in the various sports Halls who were less than stellar humans. Everyone knows that. But if you start weeding out guys you aren't enamored with you then have a collection of 'Hall of Fame guys I like'. If I had an NFL Hall collection I'd hold my nose and put a Simpson card in the binder. Just my humble opinion.

Buy the OJ card, put it next to Ray Lewis in the Killers Wing.

Like Leon and others I do think it is a personal choice. Where to you draw the line and what is your tolerance.
Lawrence Taylor - multiple drug offenses, registered sex offender. Pled guilty to sexual misconduct for propositioning a hooker who happened to be a minor. Ray Rice and Kareem Hunt, probably not hall of famers, but both of them beat women while they were still active players. I am not sitting in judgment of any of them. The facts speak for themselves. My house is made of wood. Only the windows are glass.

Except perhaps #145 of the 1958 Topps set.

I don’t get bothered by OJ cards but I only buy them when I’m finishing a set, and he’s the last card left. I have plenty of cards of people who made moral decisions I don’t agree with or did bad things, but to me there is a titanic difference between a double homicide and slapping a girlfriend or throwing a ballgame or selling drugs. Never include him when looking for a type card or something

Some things are more important than cards. I have a personal policy that anyone who brutally transforms people into human Pez Dispensers does not have a place in my collection.

I have a big run of NFL HOF signed photos, and got an OJ in a big group I purchased. I kept it more because I couldn't swallow the thought of selling it, but it has value so I didn't want to trash it. So if you look through my photos it's at the very end. I would not seek him out, nor would I spend an extra dime on Ray Lewis.

He exposed himself to young girls, admitted it and pled guilty in 1958.

He was supposed to be card #145 in the 1958 Topps set. They removed his card.

Didn’t want to buy oj either. Ended up getting one in a trade and others in lots so they are in the binders. I got most of my Jim Rivera cards before I learned about his conviction and possible later offense.

This conversation must drive set collectors crazy. I'll bet everyone has a few players of sketchy character represented in their collections, even if they don't realize it. How about Jake Powell, Jeff Heath, Ed Bouchee, Ben Chapman, Lenny Dykstra, Mel Hall, Chad Curtis or Cesar Cedeno? How about the definitely amoral Leo Durocher? That's just a few of the top of my head. I'm sure there's a few bad apples in every card set.
