Insuring collectables
So I have some insurance on my renter's policy, but it doesn't cover much, there is a maximum for collectibles. I am way over that amount, so my first question is do any of you use an insurance company that deals with collectibles?
Now, I have had things stolen from me more than a few times. At shows, in my storage units, with my vehicle that had some in the back and from my house or apartment over the years. When I was younger I didn't live in the best areas trying to save money because I was unwilling to go back to my mother's house or without the best credit, so that's on me. But when I have had my collectibles stolen I have had a hard time proving to the insurance company that I had the items, proving what they were worth is another obstacle, and then my not being the most organized person in the world, my last items were stolen. I had no idea what was missing, so the claim is still open while I am trying to figure out what is gone.
Now, one of my friends suggested since I sell a small amount of my items on Ebay already, that if I listed everything on Ebay, even with like 'not for sale prices' on my items I don't want to go away. That way I would have a record of it and of course, my friend is trying to help me thin out my collection as well, but I set the prices. Not that I don't have more things that I should try to sell, especially things I have multiples of.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.
