I have a 1933 Rittenhouse set which includes 2 different cards of Paul Warner (5 of spades and 6 of diamonds) and Lloyd Waner (queen of diamonds and 10 of hearts). According to the SCD catalog listing for the set, there are also Paul Waner and Lloyd Warner cards in the set, but I have never seen either of them. Does anyone know if both variations of the last name exist for both Paul and Lloyd or if only the ones I have are the ones that exist?

I have Paul Waner and Paul Warner cards from this set, so I know that one definitely exists with the spelling variation. I don't have a Lloyd Warner variation though, just one with his last name spelled correctly. I have never before heard of anyone questioning the existence of both of the brother's cards with the misspelled last names. Though they may be tough to come across, to my knowledge the misspelled name variations exist for both of the brothers.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll keep looking. If anyone else has seen the variations I am looking for or has them to sell, please let me know.

Thought I would bump this up to see if anyone has any comments to add. I am still trying to find out if anyone knows for sure that the Paul Waner and Lloyd Warner cards actually exist in the 1933 Rittenhouse set.

The Standard Catalog show card #45 as Lloyd Waner, #46 as Paul Waner, #47 as Lloyd Warner (Waner), and #48 as Paul Warner (Waner.
But, if you look at the Old Cardboard checklist, it shows this: 45)* Lloyd Waner 10 of Hearts (46)* Lloyd Waner Queen of Diamonds (47)* Paul Warner (Waner) 5 of Spades (48)* Paul Warner (Waner) 6 of Diamonds If you look at the PSA Pop Reports, they have graded several Lloyd Waners and several Paul Warners, and the same goes for SGC. Neither have graded a Lloyd Warner or a Paul Waner. I would question whether or not Lloyd Warner or Paul Waner really exist. Bob C. - do you have scans of your Paul Waner? Rick

According to an article I saw on prewarcards.com, "SGC has claimed to have graded a Paul Waner issue. Whether or not that is an error in their database is unclear."
https://sgclegacy.com/PopulationReport.aspx?setid=45 Seeing that was what made me bump my post from last year in case anyone was aware if it was really correct. |

I missed that when I was going thru SGC's pop report. I would have to see it to believe it.
