Default New Member - I found a T210 Jackson / Big T206 Collection

Hey folks,

I'm the "North Carolina Man" from this story that ran last night in Sports Collectors Daily:
North Carolina Man Finds Rare T210 Old Mill Joe Jackson

Over Christmas, I found 585 T206s and 86 T210s, including an SGC 3.5 T210 Jackson, hidden away in my dad's collection. They had been given to him by his great uncle when he was collecting Topps cards as a kid.

Ask me anything! (I'm at work at the moment but will do my best to answer any questions tonight/this weekend.)

Ben

Thanks! Yep, there are 2 Broad Leaf 460 backs and 1 Broad Leaf 350 back in the T206 collection. 460s are Evers and Stahl, and the 350 is Clymer.

Both of the 460s are in great condition, but they have a collector stamp on the back. The stamp says "Camp Bros.". Camp was my paternal grandmother's maiden name.

There are also about 10-15 Brown Hindu backs and 1 Factory 42 Piedmont (460 I believe? Can't remember off the top of my head).

Great story and congrats! I can only imagine what was going through your head once you made the Shoeless Joe connection.

The Bible tells us to "not to covet thy neighbor's goods."

Mark me down for one sin.

Congrats on the find.

Thanks! To add a little color to the story, the "expletives" came out of my mouth when I made the connection were "holy f****n s**t".

Nice collection. The Sports Collectors Daily link in your original post does not come up, so I have included one here that should work.

very cool, thanks sharing. Sounds like it was only T206 and T210 you got? No T205, candy cards, non-sports, etc?

Actually yes, there were also 4 gold border T205s, 2 Hassan tri-folds, and about 250 fish/bird/country flag/nautical flag cards.

Default Jackson

It must have been nerve-wracking putting the T210 Jackson into the cardsaver I sleeve. I know I get nervous putting low grade Topps into them..Rob

I would keep them, but it's a nice gesture to put it towards your parents' retirement...

The T210 Jax will be in Heritage April? I must admit, I only skimmed the article, but you are selling the collection?

Whatever the Jackson card sells for, Foster said he was going to give the money to his parents. His father has been retired for a decade, and his mother still works as a paralegal.

That's very nice of you!

The article only mentions the T210 Jackson being up for auction, and does not indicate whether any of the other cards found will be available.

Congrats! I just read the story on Sports Collectors Daily before I came to the Net54 baseball site - two of the best resources in the hobby - noticed your post right away - always great to hear stories like this - good luck!

Wow! Awesome story! I love when stuff like this happens (always hopeful that it'll happen to me some day).

I'm sure you're glad you took a second look at the Jackson from New Orleans. I'm glad you did the research and didn't get taken by one of the dealers. Heritage will get you top dollar for sure. By the way, I think I would have used the exact same expletives if I were in your shoes.

Best of luck with the sale(s).

You say none of the real rarities...how about some minor ones like team designations... Demitt or O’Hara St. Louis. Cobbs? I would love to see a nice scan of some cards which indicate the original condition!!

Default Congratulations!

I just read the story on Sports Collectors Daily. Congratulations on a great find! I especially liked how you took a representative group of cards to some dealers for an initial assessment of authenticity for the whole group. Also, holding back the Jackson strengthened your hand as you learned new information and kept it safe from any number of negative outcomes. Smart!
