I though I'd share with everyone an article I wrote for my hometown paper about the time a century ago when Ty Cobb and the Tigers trained a few blocks from where a live. Here is the link, and be sure to scroll through the photos in the article:
https://www.waxahachiesun.com/opinio...9cb62d91b.html Here is a copy of the 1921 glass slide of Collins which I acquired which shows the courthouse spire in the background. Collins is standing on the field that is still used by the local high school baseball team. 1921-Eddie-Collins-at-Jungle-Park.jpg Last edited by T206Jim; 04-10-2020 at 04:26 PM. |

Here is a bird's eye view of the field Collins was standing in as it appears today. Note the courthouse in the distance, the same as it was in the Collins photo.

Great read ... thanks for sharing Jim. I knew the Giants trained in Marlin Springs for awhile. But I didn't remember how many other teams trained in Texas during the Deadball era. Thanks again for the linking to your article.

T206jim,
Thanks for posting the article. The tigers trained in 1911 here in Monroe, LA at Bernstein Park. From what I understand Cobb didn't attend. The field's grandstand was torn down in the early 80s or so, from what I'm told. I can't remember seeing it in person. Thanks for sharing. |
