I have a granddaughter who collects said cards.
I’d like to get her a bunch for Christmas. Can anyone refer me to a good site or venue to buy from? Thanks. Doug |

I don't collect them but would try ebay, or your local walmart or target. Amazon probably has some too.

Don't make that a running gag. But yes, to just play the game, buying a blister pack with some promo cards and a few unopened packs at your local WalMart is perfectly reasonable. Or are you looking for bulk cards she can make more decks out of? If so, craigslist or flea markets might be your best bet.

Depends on how much you want to spend but you can't go wrong with a new pokemon cosmic eclipse booster box. They cost around $90 and contain 36 packs. You can find online at dave and adams, steel city or ebay. If you want to spend less try booster packs or a collection box. Booster packs at Wal-Mart typically are around $4 each and collection boxes at Wal-Mart are from $19.99 to $49.99.
My recommendation is stick to the newest sets such as cosmic eclipse unless told otherwise. |

My son find common Pokemon cards at local comic book store for 10 cent each. They have monster boxes and albums full of them.

My 11 year old son and his friends are currently gaga over the Tag Team variants. You should find them on Ebay easily enough.

An unopened box ( and these things are only 15 yrs old or so ) went for some crazy money -$5000-$10000...in a major auction a couple weeks ago
The box possibly contained the " oh so rare" ..Char-a-zard hologram ! |

My son collects Pokémon also. The $20 boxes at Walmart or Target are a good deal. Lots of kids really like the oversized cards and it's the best way to get them other than getting them off eBay or through another secondary seller. I would also recommend checking your local Dollar Tree. They sell packs of 4 cards for $1 each. The chances of getting a "good" card is actually quite good, we seem to have better luck than paying for the $4 packs. They might be tough to find though because they are so popular. You can see videos on youtube of folks opening 1,000 packs at a time. Very good results though.
Good luck! |

$10,000 is nothing. The November Huggins and Scott auction got $61,500 for a box of Pokemon.

We've sold 3 boxes over the past year in the ballpark. Have another coming up in February. It's like a 1986-87 Fleer Basketball box of Pokemon, except with a huge international following.

I imagine the buyer expects to make a profit on the contents ?? What might be in there to justify a 65 K buy-in ?? Are we all in the wrong hobby ?? ..Inquiring minds want to know.... .. |

My daughter still has all her Pokemon cards from the mid 90's. She has several hundred. Is there any value in Pokemon cards from that time period? Is it time for me to start selling her cards?

Post some pictures here. I’m sure there are a few TCG collectors on Net54.

1999 1st edition base set holos are worth a ton in high grade. 1999 1st edition Jungle and Fossil holos in high grade also hold some strong value.
It will be interesting to see the future of pokemon cards and the future pokemon collecting habits of todays youth. Will they care about graded cards? Will condition matter? It will be interesting to see. |

My kid is serious about Pokemon. I introduced him to Pokemon cards at age 5 hoping it would be a gateway to other cards. All I can say is that Pokemon and Magic the Gathering have a bright future. The 30 somethings and younger are now sparking the graded market for the desired cards in these issues.
I do believe they will keep pace with moderns cards of today. Which is hotter than vintage depending on who you ask. "SMPratte" is a Pokemon card celebrity of sorts. He does video blogs on YouTube and also provides Pokemon card investment advice as a service. It's the real deal folks. I started picking up Gem Mint 10 Pokemon cards for my son and storing them away for him. PSA also treats them seriously as they realize it's an international market of collectors. Everything from Vintage baseball to modern basketball is a niche market and we should all celebrate the collecting culture! Quote:

That’s generally true. However, there are a few non-foil promos (and variations) that are worth a decent amount.

Thanks for all the good info and advice.
I wound up getting a cosmic eclipse blister pack as well as a few binders with pocket-pages, and I learned a bit in the bargain. |
