FS-Vince Lombardi signed debut check-great back story

For sale here as an outstanding check completely and signed by recently hired coach and GM Vince Lombardi. The check is dated 7/15/59 (yes exactly 60 years ago yesterday) and was signed during training vince’s first training camp in titletown. He made his regular season coaching debut a few months later. His rookie year was a success as he led the
Packers to their first winning season in over a decade and won the coach of the year

Whats even cooler is that the check is made out to and signed by bill austin. Bill was vince’s protege. He coached him (later coached with him) in new york, and was his first hire with the packers. Austin worked for lombardi for 6 years as the principal architect of their running game, he was also instrumental in developing green bays “power sweep”. Years later bill followed vince to washington, and took over as head when vince was diagnosed with cancer.

Lombardi passed in 1970, making this a tough signature. Signature strength is a solid 9 in ballpoint. Only flaw is that there is some tape residue on the reverse which does not detract from the checks gorgeous appearance. It was originally in a banged up frame with a nice 18x23 matte. I will include this matte with the purchase.

If you are looking for a lombardi check you will not find one with a better backstory at this price.
