June autograph pickups

I'm very pleased to have added this terrific circa 1940 AP of HOF Great Satchel Page. The AP is perfectly signed in fountain pen and is HUGE!
This is definitely one of the nicest examples of "Ol Satch" that I have ever seen.

It originated from an incredible collection of several thousand players that a gentleman that worked for the Chicago Railroad assembled from the 1930's to 1960's.
The collector was a man after my own heart as he had several very cool collecting biases:
He aspired to get very early signatures of players, especially rookie era autographs. Additionally, he preferred fountain pen as his pen of choice.
He requested that each signer sign "BIG" and straight across the middle of the page, which really made this collection special, IMHO.

HOF'er Satchel Paige reported that he likely hurled 55 no-hitters in his long-storied career which had him playing on many different teams that included the Negro Leagues, barnstorming teams and finally the MLB once the color barrier was finally broken.

That Hippo Vaughan is a good one.
I still am looking to add a vintage fountain pen Hippo Vaughan to my own collection of no-hit pitchers. Please let me know if you ever see another one.
I have a nice ball point signed 3 x 5, but I love those earlier fountain pen signatures. IMHO they just look much nicer. Just a collecting quirk I guess, but I suspect others feel the same way...

I don’t usually post in this section because I limit my autographs to historical content examples of Chadwick, Spalding and George and Harry Wright, (to go along with a period photo) which I don’t get too many of.
I was missing a Harry and love the references to cricket, Boston, Base Ball, St. George’s, and Sam and George Wright. Probably paid too much, but it fit the bill for what I was looking for. Talbots was the Secretary of the club and was an excellent cricket player himself.
If anyone has any Sam related pieces, I would love to see them, or, if possible acquire them.

In the next LOTG I will have a Harry Wright scorecard. Not signed by Harry but he filled in the name of one of his brothers ( I forget if Sam or George) so he did sign his last name.

Harry is one of the few I need left. That letter is simply amazing, but I'm probably limiting myself financially to a scorecard with "harry wright". Shelps, if you got one of those...…

Judge Landis is pretty common but this letter has some content that really caught my eye. He mentions Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, and Mordecai Brown.

“Walter Johnson is one of the outstanding characters of the game. You can’t think of it without thinking of him,” Landis writes in the second paragraph. He continues, “Men like he (Johnson), Mathison (sic), and Old Mordecai Brown, and a host of others, made a real contribution to our society.”

The collection there was featured on ESPN and has autographs of all but three Hall of Famers who debuted in the big leagues since 1900. It also has a couple hundred guys not in the Hall.

Picked up this ball from a guy that lived next to Wheat when he was a kid . Zach signed this ball for him in 1959 when he was 10 years old . Has been wrapped up since until I took off yesterday .

Picked up this Charles Deal - 2nd base for 1914 Miracle Braves. Made some good plays in the WS. Not expensive, but cool.
