Congratulations to whoever won the Old Judge Pete Browning on Ebay tonight. This is a scarce card of a very popular player, a card I haven’t seen come to market in quite a few years.

I've had Browning on my wantlist for years; this was the first one I've ever seen for sale. I had zero chance at it though
![]() I thought it interesting that it was being sold by a general antique dealer in Truckee (Lake Tahoe) California. It looks like someone came in to them with a group of Old Judges, as the seller had several others ending tonight. Steve

I noticed the Browning and would have loved to get it, but the price quickly got too rich for my blood. I did win one OJ from the same seller, this John Barnes, St. Paul manager, with a great, sharp image.

That is great image clarity for an Old Judge card. Congrats on the purchase.

That was a nice grouping of cards - The Annis, Worcester had an interesting 'miscut' that was a cool flaw in the reproduction process and that Barkley portrait is, I think, fairly tough.

I missed the auction and now can't find the listing for the Browning - could someone share a link as I'd like to see it - thanks!

Can't seem to paste the link here but if you search truckeeantiques completed items it should pop up.,
I would also expect more Old Judges from them since this group was only A-G. H to Z could be interesting. |

Good catch on the A-G listing detail. He may yet list the Old Judge at the top of my want list!

They will not be listing anymore OJs. These were all they were able to win at an estate auction (about half). Glad I was able to pick up one.

He certainly did. If the auction house had done a little leg work they could have found this site and posted about the Old Judge group. Pity for the consignor. Last edited by oldjudge; 06-17-2019 at 02:38 PM. |

I thought it went cheap. I figured it would end around 6K.

It’s been so long since a copy has come to market that I had no idea what to expect. As I told a friend, I would not have been surprised if it went for $2,500, and I would not have been surprised if it went for $10,000.

It is not a sin that a general auction house might not know about a particular card issue. What is horrible is if they don’t educate themselves before auctioning the items. Contrast this with the great job that Phillip Weiss did for his consignor with the Long Island Old Judge cabinet find.

Is that correct; that the Browning went for only $238 on June 5th? ![]() Steve

I like the Barkley Portrait. I have always liked that OJ portrait card! Unfortunately, came up short. Is the Barkley Portrait considered tough? I know there is two versions of his Portrait image. Sold for just under $400 PSA 2? High?? |

I think in that condition the portrait price was on the low side of fair.

Is the Barkley a tough portrait to obtain compared to other portraits in the OJ set? (Excluding the spotted tie subset)

Kind of in the middle. Healey, Wright Pose 2, the McCormick portraits, and McGreachery (Deacon White) for example are all a lot tougher.
