Since Ryan (hey Ryan) asked about my T206 subset endeavor why not have a thread about them? For some reason mine seem to have similar characteristics...

My two subsets don't compare to Leon's HOFer examples above, but here they are.
1. The four Jersey City Skeeters from the set. I collect all Skeeters cards. 2. The six horizontals. I picked these up 15-20 years ago and the Birmingham has the purple number back stamp that I collect also. .

Nice. This should be a great thread. The subsets I am working on are Brown Old Mill and Brown Lenox (links to collection below), and I have a master t206 back subset; one example of each back, including series and factory variation (like below)

Great thread which is right up my alley. Terrific cards everyone!
Much like Leon I've concentrated only on examples for my HOF portrait subset which display superior- color, clarity, registration and acceptable above average centering. One small difference for me though is that all of these were graded at one time but have since been cracked out for two reasons. One, they look better raw. And two, well they look better raw ![]() Please excuse the cards which look smaller than others. Its just the scan as all are full size and unaltered! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Tony, incredible eye appeal! Registration/clarity is one of my biggest pet peeves, and these all sing, they're so well registered! Their faces pull you right in.

Since 2005, progress on my AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 (AB 460) run is near completion. American Lithographic printed 74 subjects with the AB 460 back.
I have 73 of them.....I only need the Camnitz (hands over head) card. On display here are some of the really difficult cards to find in this T206 sub-set. I always thought this was a super tough AB 460. It was the last back I found for my tinker, bat off, back run, and I have only seen one for sale in the last 3-4 years (this one); meanwhile I have seen the Cobb bat off AB 460 come up at least 2-3 times over that period.
Indeed, Tinker bat off has a few extremely tough combos- this piedmont factory 42 is 1 of 2 known, and this Uzit combo is very rare as well; all 2011 issues Last edited by Rhotchkiss; 08-14-2020 at 06:34 AM. |

Hi Ryan You are absolutely correct. In fact, both Tinker's (with bats) are tough to find with the AB 460 back. But, the "Bat Off Shoulder" version is the toughest. Here is my list of the most difficult to find AB 460 cards in my experience putting together this sub-set...... 350/460 Series Cobb (bat off shoulder) Jennings (one hand) Lajoie (bat) McQuillan (bat) Overall (yellow sky) F. Smith (Chicago & Boston) Steinfeldt (bat) Tinker (bat off shoulder) Wagner (bat on right) Wilhelm (bat) Wiltse (pitching) 460-only Series Abbaticchio (blue sleeves) Ball (Cleveland) Camnitz (arms above head) Chance (bat) Chase (trophy) Doyle (portrait) Howell (hand on waist) Lake (with ball) McGraw (portrait-cap) Murray (portrait) Oldring (batting) Payne Schaefer (Washington) Schlei (portrait) Tinker (bat on shoulder) Wiltse (portrait-cap) TED Z T206 Reference . |

In 2006....I broke-up my 2nd T206 set in order to put together an All - PIEDMONT sub-set comprising of 520 cards (no Wagner, nor Plank). I figured that it should
be a relatively easy adventure, since American Lithographic printed over 50% of the T206's they produced with the PIEDMONT advertisements. In the 1st decade of the 20th Century, Piedmont was the "Flagship" brand of the American Tobacco Company. Examples of star cards in this set ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Example 15-card page from my album ![]() ![]() Eventually, I acquired a MAGIE to update this set to 519 cards. June 2007, I found a card which I refer to as a "poor man's" substitute for the Joe Doyle Nat'L. Check-out Post #985 in this thread...."Poor man's Joe Doyle Nat'L Finally, my PIEDMONT sub-set was complete with 520 cards. TED Z T206 Reference . |

This SWEET CAP run comprises of 469 cards. I started this sub-set in 2007, and it was fairly easy to complete a 467-card set. Plank and Wagner are the 468th and 469th cards.
It took 9 years to finally acquire the Eddie Plank card. Especially because I was searching for a decent looking SWEET CAPORAL 150, Factory #30 card at a reasonable price. No dice on an SWEET CAP 350 card. Those versions are not as pretty. ![]() ![]() ![]() Listed here are the 55 - No Prints in this set...... This sub-set was a really interesting experience. It took me approx. 11 months to complete this set of 402 different SOVEREIGN subjects.
I always favored the GREEN colored T206 backs. So, I figured a SOVEREIGN set would be relatively easy to complete, since there is no Wagner, Plank , Joe Doyle Nat'L, Magie, Demmitt or O'Hara (St Louis variations), Lundgren, and no Southern League series (48 cards). Well, I was very mistaken. The SOVEREIGN set was quite a challenge in itself. Besides the 55 above noted No-Prints, I had to determine which other T206 cards were NOT printed with SOVEREIGN backs. The total number of SOVEREIGN No Prints is 122. I am pleased to report to you that my list of No-Prints have withstood the test of time. Furthermore, the Six Super Prints (which Scot Reader identified in his great book "Inside T206") where introduced when American Lithographic printed the SOVEREIGN cards. Shown here are the Six Super-Prints with their SOVEREIGN 350 backs and their SOVEREIGN 460 backs...... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . |

Yeppers. Not too concerned about sharp corners but the bottom name needs to appear and they should have large top borders. And I prefer decent centering and eye appeal, of course. This one is a little o/c for me but not bad considering it has a nice top.

I only have a couple T206 Subsets completed. Old Mill SL which is fairly common and my Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 30 "No Prints" (Missing the Scroll Overprint). The complete set consists of 28 cards. So far this is the only known complete set because only one Lajoie With Bat has shown up. There are 3 other cards in this set that have only 2 known. I'm always looking to trade my duplicates for others that I'm missing for a partial second set.

what would you say are the subsets unrelated to backs that are typically carved out of the set and generally have a premium?
when you hear about people not chasing the 520(4), what are they generally collecting in T206? I am sure I am missing many here... HoFers Southern Leaguers Minor Leaguers Portraits Horizontals Cubs? (it seems many collect only the cubs, not sure about other teams)
