Here's one, card dimensions probably can vary, this one is 2-5/16 x 2-15/16 compared to 2-3/8 x 2-7/8. I picked this card up because of the Waner's Big Poison (Person) and Little Poison on one card . The only card I have from that set.

I'm slowly putting together a master set. There are 36 different card fronts, the master set totals 114 cards with the different front/back combinations. I have 65 different so far, 57% complete.
I tried to find a complete checklist to post but couldn't. The checklist I use of course only shows the cards I need. I think I pulled the complete checklist from the PSA site which showed which front back combinations were more scarce. Of course knowing which front/back combos are rare is must have information, hopefully somebody else has a checklist. My recent focus has been on other parts of my collection, so it's been awhile since I thumbed through these. I do not yet even have a "basic" set of 36 cards since I need Cochrane/Kamm/Ruel/Simmons. I own two of the four Babe Ruth cards, both of these have rare backs. The two I need (1J and 3A backs) are common backs. ![]() ![]()

Keeping an accurate checklist is kind of a pain with this set since there are no numbers. The Standard Catalog numbers the cards according to which player on each card comes first alphabetically. That just didn't work very well. What worked for me is to list what player appears in the upper left, followed by the back puzzle number and (RB) if it's a rare back.
I suppose back in 1935 there was a great temptation to break out the scissors and make individual cards, and in order to salvage my reputation here on Net54, I'll post a couple ![]() Larry ![]() ![]()

A board member contacted me and said he had a Ruel card to complete my "basic" set. He sent me a scan, and the card had a 5A back. "Ruel 5A" wasn't listed on my wantlist, so I thumbed through my graded card box and look what I found

This is the set that got me started collecting prewar cards. The Ruth shown below was pulled from a pack by my father and then survived 30+ years in a cardboard box in the rafters of a detached garage at my grandmothers house. My grandparents moved while my father was in the Navy during WWII and thought they had trashed his baseball cards. My aunt found them in the mid-70's and my father gave them to me. I've since finished the basic set and am on my way to the master set. Also included are a few oddities that I've picked up along the way.

I use the checklist on oldcardboard.com....
http://www.oldbaseball.com/MegaCheck...R321&year=1935 About half way through a master set myself, sidetracked by building the Monster and doublefolders sets. Still, a fun set...pictures to come when I can...

I'm happy to bump this three year old post to report that today I completed my 1935 Goudey "Master Set" of 114 different front/back combinations
![]() The last card needed just arrived via the recent Brockelman auction and was part of an eight card lot. The card features Frankie Frisch and Dizzy Dean with a very tough puzzle back 7A. 707 had this card listed on eBay (Buy It Now OBO) for several months but they knew it was a difficult card and my offers always fell short. The card finally sold, and I hadn't seen one since.

Thanks Brian I didn't know this was your consignment.
Rich somewhere I found a checklist for the master set and I printed it out. Now I can't find it, so I'll try to scan the hard copy I have. I hope all can read it, circled letters are the tough to find backs. Larry

Thanks, I'll have to check and see if I have any of the toughie backs. If I do, it would be purely by accident.

Inspiration can be a nice looking Ruth....It doesn't seem these pop up in higher grades that often.
And way to go, LuckyLarry. It's always a good feeling to finish off a project.
