No but since team cards aren't considered rookies, by most rookie collectors, his 1904 Allegheny is considered his true rookie.

and one of our members owns the Allegheny and won't sell it to me when I was trying to complete RCs of the 1999 Induction Class...oh, well, I never got a Joe Williams either.


I do not believe, for a minute, he uses the card as his avatar just to tease me.

Actually, the cabinet is a composite of cabinets so his 1887 individual cabinet may still exist somewhere.

Here is a second 1887 Oshkosh cabinet. Like the first it features Dummy Hoy and Frank Selee (and Old Judge legend Taylor Shafer). However, this one features a newly acquired Tommy McCarthy, recently picked up from Philadelphia for $800.

I’d take that first Oshkosh card all day over any of those Alleghenys. That pin is nice too.

My original list of earliest baseball collectibles for every Hall of Famer indicates the 1887 Oshkosh team cabinet for Selee. I am not aware of anything earlier.

I didn't see your list. Thanks Phil! As you can see there are actually two different cabinets with the one without McCarthy being the earlier.

Never get sick of seeing those awesome cabinet cards. Have been on the lookout for more of them in Northeast Wisconsin and hope to locate the individual headshot cabinet cards someday.

There just aren't alot of options for Selee. I was floored when I saw that near complete set of "On Time Starch" pins last year and saw Selee hiding in there. So cool. Congrats on the pick-up (again). And congrats on the new Oshkosh cabinet.

Only peripherally related, but I have listed an 1886 New England League program in the BST of Haverhill playing Brockton. Selee started his managing career at Haverhill in 1885 and was the manager there in 1886 during the game that the scorecard related to. Unfortunately, Selee’s name is not shown on the scorecard. After Haverhill he went to Oshkosh.
