Hi everyone, I live in the metro Detroit area and came upon this bat, the condition is amazing for possibly a 70 year old baseball bat . That is why I joined this forum for help , could this be a replica bat , in researching this bat it seems to be the real deal but I am skeptical because of the condition. I would appreciate any opinions or knowledge about the baseball bat, see pictures, G79 on the knob, it is over 34 inches but not 35, Genuine Hank Greenberg, trademark reg is pre 1950, thanks in advanceDB460C56-2BA7-4C4C-93A8-BB0B719AF806.jpg

Looks to be from the 1960s based on the 2 in 125 being directly over the & sign

Hi thanks for your opinion, what about the TRADE MARK REG which I read was not put on the bats after 1950 and the G79 ,thanks

Trade mark reg was 1940s mark. However the font and brand mark on your bat is not correct for that period .

Weren't there a bunch of replica bats made in the 80s and 90s for autograph signings at shows for various players? Could this be one of those?

I have no idea , bat really looks to good to be 70 years old and I do live in the Detroit area and that is where he played, just seems odd Louisville Slugger setting up the cutter for such an exact bat , down to the trade mark differences and the G79 on the knob

G79 was one of his pro stock models. His records indicate he never ordered a bat under 35 inches

Louisville Slugger records show that Greenberg bulk ordered G79's throughout 1946 and 1947 although none exactly matching this bat's 34.5 inch and 33.9 oz specs. It is thought that Greenberg, in an effort to speed up his swing either shortened this bat from it's original 35 inch length or special ordered this bat from the Louisville factory, something that would not have been recorded in the company's records. Baseball historians know that Greenberg tinkered with different bat sizes and weights through out his career,

Without a doubt this is a bat made in the 1960s or 1970s. As was stated previously, the font is that which was used during that time.

Thank You to all who responded, I do appreciate everyone,s input, This bat was sitting on a table at a local garage sale on the 2nd day of the sale, amazing and kind of sad that a baseball icons bat was missed by so many, i love wood bats and old baseball gloves, when I showed my 85 year old Dad the bat his eyes lit up as he said " oh wow Hank Greenberg" it was great, anyway everyone loves a mystery and everyone here has helped, Thank You all, p.s. last 2 weeks have picked up a Brooks Robinson model Rawlings Mitt faded somewhat but has 1968 Detroit Tiger autographs all over it, mickey lolich, denny mclain , mayo smith, larry sherry , John sain etc.etc and the bat, (total spent $5.00)

mickey lolich autograph is by far the best,probably signed a different time than the rest as he has always been accessible in the Detroit area, faded but visible denny mclain, wally moses (coach) john sain (coach) fred gladden , larry sherry, (pitchers) and very faded but i can make out Mayo Smith (manager) the rest are impossible for me to make out

I worked with a guy in the late 80's who did signings with some of the older players (Slaughter, Drysdale, Hunter, etc) and he would order new LS player model bats from the factory for the signings. The only condition was that the player had to write a letter (or maybe sign a form) to allow H&B to manufacture their personal model bats.

That could be the case with this one.
