On Monday evening April 10, 1961 at the Hotel Astor in Times Square, New York City, a “Welcome Home Dinner” was held to honor the beginning of the 1961 Yankees baseball season. The tradition of a Yankees dinner to open the regular season still continues today. On that fateful night in 1961 the entire Yankees team was present(the players can be seen in the photo dressed to the nines).
In addition to this original Broadside with amazing graphics included is a vintage photograph of the event and original menu and original program with the names of everyone who attended and their seat assignments. Would look awesome in any Yankees Collection, put it with a photo of Roger & Mick or a team signed ball.
What is pretty funny is the next day on April 11, 1961 Opening Day, these Yankees got whitewashed 6-0 against the...........Twins??? The soon to be 7th place Twins against one of the most powerful teams of all time. Mantle and Maris went a combined 0-7 and Whitey took the loss. I'm thinking Mickey, Whitey, Moose, Yogi, Roger and the boys did a little too much partying at this dinner....but they would re-group and focus soon enough and the M&M boys would put on a show the rest of this storied season.
Anybody here know Billy Crystal, out this to him please : ) He needs this.
